Passive learning of speech sounds associated with microstructure of fronto-temporo-parietal but not fronto-striatal white matter tracts : possible implications for implicit language learning tasks

Language learning involves implicitly acquiring a sensitivity for novel speech sounds and phonological structure [1]. Implicit learning skill differs between individuals [2] and this individual difference could potentially be reflected in the quality of white matter tracts relevant for speech perception and production [3] or for implicit sequence learning [4]. Implicit learning of speech has been

Dorf = Ohlendorf? The portrait of a genocidal killer in Holocaust: The Story of the Family Weiss (1978)

The production team behind the television series Holocaust had a challenging task to find a character who the audience could relate to and try to understand, despite the knowledge that he was deeply involved in the mass executions on the Eastern front. In my paper, I analyse the fictional SS member Erik Dorf (Michael Moriarty). Dorf was based on several people, including the SS officer Otto Ohlen

Kraftvärme - En förbisedd grundpelare i morgondagens förnybara elsystem

The Swedish power system, similar to those of other European countries, is currently transitioning from fossil to renewable. Simultaneously the electrification and digitalization of societies all over the world sets high standards for the availability of power. As a result the power systems experience certain limitations and issues. This can partially be accredited to the decline of available disp

ESG Portfolios in Different Markets - Investigating the Relationship Between ESG Performance and Financial Performance

By applying one of the largest datasets on ESG ratings to date with around 8000 companies included during the sample period between 2006-2021. This paper investigates the increasingly popular link between firms’ social and financial performance and the potential abnormal returns to be found using ESG investment strategies. To examine this relationship, a series of portfolios are constructed based

The use of molecular methods in studies of avian haemosporidians

During the last two decades, molecular methods to study mitochondrial DNA sequence variation have become an important part in the studies of avian haemosporidians. Up until recently, these methods have primarily been used for identification of the parasites and for tentative phylogenetic reconstructions, allowing researchers not trained in traditional parasitology to compare data across the globe.

Lunch Tour of Coded Threads

11 december 2025 12:00 till 12:30 | Utställning Welcome to a lunch tour of the newly openend exhibition "Coded Threads" at Skissernas Museum! The exhibition “Coded Threads” traces threads from the origin of the digital, the woven fabric, into today’s and tomorrow’s digital realities. The loom is the basis of binary coding: the thread can go over or under the warp, be a one or a zero. The thread is

The Empowerment of the European Parliament - An Analysis of its Role in the Development of the Co-decision Procedure

Abstract In this thesis the EP’s role and influence in the development of the co-decision procedure is analysed. Over the last decades the European Parliament has increased its power in the legislative process. It has been one of the central actors in the development of the co-decision procedure, established in the Maastricht Treaty and extended in the Amsterdam Treaty. The question of how the EP

Prediction of fracture propagation in human femur using the Finite Element Method

Hip fractures constitute a major problem, both in terms of a lower life quality for the people affected and socio-economical factors. Osteoporosis is a medical condition, defined by decreased bone mass, which results in a more fragile bone structure and a higher risk for fractures. Osteoporosis accounts for a cost of € 1.5 billion each year in Sweden alone, and the costs are increasing. In orderHip fractures can be predicted using numerical models -You probably know at least one older person who broke their hip. Hip fractures most often affect older people and it is both painful, takes time to heal and is expensive for the society. If there was a way to predict and prevent fractures, a lot of suffering, time and money could be saved.-
