Remains of a planet found orbiting dead star

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. Astronomers have discovered what appears to be the remnants of a planet orbiting a dead star in a disc of debris formed from destroyed planets. The planetary fragment could offer clues into the fate of our own Solar System in the far-off future. According to a new study published in Science, researchers have found a s

Negative impact on Arctic research as Russia is excluded

Climate research in the Arctic is being hit hard as collaboration with Russian researchers is put on ice. “It’s impossible to get an overall picture of the Arctic without looking at Russia. If this becomes permanent, we will be thrown back 20 years,” says Margareta Johansson, who leads the unique research project INTERACT, which incorporates researchers from all eight Arctic countries.

Climate migration in focus at official COP21 side event

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. “For us in the social sciences, it is very important to highlight that there is no simple link between climate change and migration”, says Dr. Angela Oels, a visiting professor at the Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS). “In fact, multiple factors influence the decision to migrate.” Angela Oels

Three crops we might see on supermarket shelves more often

Despite sweet lupin, buck wheat and amaranth being nutritious and climate-smart crops, we eat them only rarely. Engineering students studying food technology at Lund University in Sweden have recently developed completely new experimental products in which those crops play a key role – and perhaps provide a clue to the range on offer in the food shops of the future. Each year a group of students o

New imaging method sheds light on Alzheimer's disease

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. To understand what happens in the brain when Alzheimer's disease develops, researchers need to be able to study the molecular structures in the neurons affected by Alzheimer's disease. Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have tested a new imaging method for this purpose. The research is published in the journal A

Comic strips and metaphors help students to reflect

One of the biggest perks of teaching at university? Supervising students and seeing them grow into their role. That is at least according to senior lecturers Olof Hallonsten and Anna Jonsson. Detectives with magnifying glasses and catching and preparing a fish. Those are two of the metaphors that Anna Jonsson and Olof Hallonsten use to explain the relationship between supervisor and student, the v

Utan dessa små ”fettdroppar” hade vaccinet aldrig kunnat levereras in i kroppens celler.
