Impact of activated sludge ozonation on filamentous bacteria viability and possible added benefits

Ozone was applied to return activated sludge in full-scale to study how ozone impacts filamentous bacteria viability (Live/Dead®). Additionally, the ozonated sludges were subjected to anaerobic digestion trials and analysis of micropollutants. Ozone treatment (3-4.8 g O3/kg TSS) improved the settling properties of the sludge by lowering the diluted sludge volume with 7-35%. Risk factors for development of neurocognitive disorders

Vascular risk factors are believed to be involved in dementia development by increasing risk of the most common dementia types, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and vascular dementia. The aim of this thesis was to study if risk factors affect key brain pathology directly, by using biomarkers for dementia in preclinical stages, and to assess previous findings in a large population-based setting.Paper I: ar

Patientsäkerhet kräver regler och rutiner som följs men också bryts

Modern health-care is a complex socio-technical system, and as such variability is normal and necessary. The ability of a complex system such as health-care to quickly and correctly adapt to varying circumstances is crucial to how well the system works. Both increased compliance to guidelines, and a concurrent ability in individuals to deviate from these guidelines in certain situations, can be ex

Networked research infrastructures and their governance : The case of biobanking

Research infrastructures such as biobanks are increasingly important for science and society. This paper focuses on the transition of biobanks from being a research tool of individual research groups to complex, internationally networked research infrastructures supporting large-scale biomedical investigations, and the challenges that this change poses for governance in relation to management, fun

Cost consequences due to reduced ulcer healing times - analyses based on the Swedish Registry of Ulcer Treatment.

Resource use and costs for topical treatment of hard-to-heal ulcers based on data from the Swedish Registry of Ulcer Treatment (RUT) were analysed in patients recorded in RUT as having healed between 2009 and 2012, in order to estimate potential cost savings from reductions in frequency of dressing changes and healing times. RUT is used to capture areas of improvement in ulcer care and to enable s

Do economic evaluation studies inform effective healthcare resource allocation in Iran? A critical review of the literature.

To aid informed health sector decision-making, data from sufficient high quality economic evaluations must be available to policy makers. To date, no known study has analysed the quantity and quality of available Iranian economic evaluation studies. This study aimed to assess the quantity, quality and targeting of economic evaluation studies conducted in the Iranian context. The study systematical

International Organisations, Authority, and the First Permanent Secretariats in the 19th Century

International organisations (IOs) play increasingly important roles in world politics. As states face more complex challenges they have joined together in IOs to solve their common problems. Yet once an IO has been created it may take on a life of its own, and it becomes difficult for its state founders to control what it does. Permanent secretariats populated by experts are one of the most import

Changes in drug spending for different age groups during the 1990s? : Evidence from Sweden

The objective of this review is to examine how drug spending in different age groups changed during the 1990s. Time series analysis of registered data on prescription drug spending were performed, along with two decompositions, one of which was spending in three components: price, quantity (defined daily dose) and residual. The size of the residual is a measure of the impact of changes in drug tre

Does increased standardisation in health care mean less responsiveness towards individual patients expectations? : A register based study in Swedish primary care
