A VLSI architecture of the Schnorr-Euchner decoder for MIMO systems
The lattice decoder is shown to approach the performance of Maximum-likelihood decoder for MIMO wireless systems with low complexity. A VLSI architecture of the K-best Schnorr-Euchner lattice decoder is proposed in this paper. The architecture is optimized on both algorithm and architecture levels, and supports a dynamic range of SNR [less-than or equal to] 30 dB. Compared to a conventional VLSI i
Self-calibration from Image Derivatives for Active Vision Systems
In this paper we show how to calibrate a camera, mounted on a robot, with respect to the intrinsic camera parameters when the so-called hand-eye transformation between the robot hand and the camera is unknown. The calibration is based directly on the spatial and temporal derivatives in an image sequence and do not need any matching and tracking of features or a reference object. The calibration is
Theoretical Foundations for Information Literacy : a Plan for Action
Information literacy is both a common and an important learning activity with higher education. That said, it is under-theorized as a process and as a path to a product. In order to meet the need for theory, the four panelists will offer four distinct possibilities for theoretical frameworks. While the four frameworks are able to stand alone, there is also the likelihood that they might be melded
A Study of Indoor Aerosol Size Distribution and Attachment of Radon Daughters
The particle size distribution in 11 different dwellings was studied during 5-7 days, samples being taken every 15 min. Large variation in the aerosol concentration has been found. Also the size distribution of the aerosol varies depending on the level of activity in the home, e.g. smoking and cooking. The average area median diameter found in the dwellings was 0.2 ,am. A technique for the measure
Spike-Feature Based Estimation of Electrode Position in Extracellular Neural Recordings
Detecting and sorting spikes in extracellular neural recordings are common procedures in assessing the activity of individual neurons. In chronic recordings, passive electrode movements introduce changes in the shape of detected spike waveforms, and may thus lead to problems with identification and tracking of spikes recorded at separate instances in time, which is an important step in long-term m

Optical diagnostics for characterization of a full-size fighter-jet afterburner
In the present work the feasibility of using various optical/laser based techniques for characterization of the afterburner of a full-size aircraft engine have been investigated. The tests have been performed on-site at Volvo Aero Corporation and were mainly directed towards surface thermometry using thermographic phosphors and fuel visualization. All applications were studied for different engine
An Algorithm for Phase-Space Detection of the P Characteristic Points
A new algorithm, based on embedding phase space, to detect the P-wave characteristic points of an ECG signal is reported in this paper. The multi-lead ECG is transformed into points of an embedding phase space where similar ECG morphologies are converted into phase space points that are close using some distance measure. The algorithm is robust with respect to the type of selected characteristic p
Adaptive beamformer with recursively updated quadratic constraints
A novel adaptive beamformer employing recursively updated soft constraints for acoustic speech enhancement is proposed. The beamformer operates in a subband structure to allow time-frequency operation for each channel. As such, the processing can be viewed as a combination of weighted spatial and temporal filters. The major benefit of this recursive soft constrained beamformer is that it allows th
Återspeglas förlagens positioner på bokmarknaden i litteraturstödsfördelningen? : en analys med utgångspunkt i 2011 års Litteraturutredning
In March 2011 the Swedish government appointed a committee to investigate and analyze the literature’s situation and the literature area. The committee will not investigate the conditions and positions of the actors on the book market, nor analyze the distribution of the National Arts Council’s literature support – a support with the purpose to encourage publication of quality literature with grea
Characterization of Atrial Fibrillation Episodes Using a Point Process Model
The purpose of the present study is to introduce a point process model for characterizing the pattern of atrial fibrillation (AF) episodes. A variant of the bivariate Hawkes process is proposed, accounting for clustered episodes. The model parameters are inferred by the maximum likelihood method. The goodness-of-fit analysis show that model fits the data in most of the recordings (27 out of 32). T
Protein HC-IgA complexes carry antibody activities
Polyclonal protein HC-IgA complexes (HC-IgA) were isolated from two different serum pools. Their hydrodynamic volumes were found to be slightly greater than that of monomeric IgA but less than that of dimeric IgA. Sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of reduced and carboxymethylated complexes followed by immunoblotting showed that the complexes contained normal light an
Detection of Stance-Related Characteristics in Social Media Text
In this paper, we present a study for the identification of stancerelated features in text data from social media. Based on our previous work on stance and our findings on stance patterns, we detected stance-related characteristics in a data set from Twitter and Facebook. We extracted various corpus-, quantitative- and computational-based features that proved to be significant for six stance categ
Influence of left atrial size on P-wave morphology : differential effects of dilation and hypertrophy
Aims: Chronic left atrial enlargement (LAE) increases the risk of atrial fibrillation. Electrocardiogram (ECG) criteria might provide a means to diagnose LAE and identify patients at risk; however, current criteria perform poorly. We seek to characterize the potentially differential effects of atrial dilation vs. hypertrophy on the ECG P-wave. Methods and results: We predict effects on the P-wave
Runoff prediction under different climate scenarios in the source region of the yellow river
Climate change has great effect on water resources in the source region of the Yellow River, which affects agricultural productivity, industrial water supply and wildlife management in the whole river basin. The hydrologic characteristics of precipitation, temperature and runoff in the source region of the Yellow River are analyzed using the long-term observed data from 1961 to 2010. The trend of

Making space for reading : a study of rural reading rooms in Yunnan Province, PRC
This thesis aims to explore the meanings behind rural reading rooms (tushushi) in Yunnan Province, PRC. Rural reading rooms are small libraries attached to the village Party compound in Chinese villages; for the past decade 600 000 reading rooms have been established in administrative villages in China, and now benefit more than 1 billion farmers in what is arguably the world’s most important deve
