Nanospintronics with Molecular Magnets - Tunneling and Spin-Electric Coupling

Popular Abstract in English In this thesis we investigate the manipulation of the magnetic properties of molecular magnets by means of external electric fields. This manipulation is mediated by either the spin-electric coupling or the magnetic anisotropy of the molecular magnet. In order to understand what this means, let us first explain some basic concepts about magnetism. We will start explainiThis dissertation investigates theoretically electric control of the magnetic properties of molecular magnets. Two classes of magnetic molecules are considered. The first class consists of molecules that are spin frustrated. As a consequence of the frustration, the ground-state manifold of these molecules is characterized by states of different spin chirality, which can be coupled by an external e

Research

From Traditional Sinology to Contemporary China StudiesMy dissertation dealt with the history and debate on human rights in China during the period 1898-1949. I have since gradually left the field of history of ideas and today mainly work on different issues in contemporary Chinese society. My turn to contemporary China also means a shift in approaches and methods. I thus no longer confine myself

Dissecting Dopaminergic Neuron Specification at Single Cell Resolution

- A PhD Interview with Edoardo Sozzi Edoardo Sozzi, a Ph.D. student at Lund University, is set to defend his thesis on February 7, 2025. His research combines cell biology and bioinformatics to explore how certain brain cells, known as dopaminergic neurons, develop into different subtypes—one associated with Parkinson's disease and another linked to cognitive function and addiction. Ultimately, hi

A queer failure of 'sustainable urban development'

This text will explore the allegedly ‘sustainable’ urbanization of agricultural land in the SUD project Hyllie, an emerging ‘smart city’ district in southern Malmö (Sweden’s third largest city). With the aim to provoke discussions on some often-overlooked dilemmas with the expansionist and projective character of SUD, the concept of ‘queer failure’ is brought in as a disruptive and generative idea

Fluids, Gels and Crystals : Phase behavior of binary thermoresponsive microgel mixtures

Particles that are a hundred- to ten thousand times smaller than the width of a hair are commonly referred to as colloidal particles. Colloidal particles occur in a variety of products, like foodstuffs (marmelade and dairy products), construction materials (cement) and stained glass. In water, these particles are strongly affected by the Brownian force: an force that was discovered in 1827 by the Thermoresponsive colloidal microgels expel solvent from their interior upon crossing a threshold temperature, resulting in a significantly reduced size. The collapse of microgels can reversibly switch the interparticle interactions from soft repulsive to attractive, and the accompanying size reduction allows for precise control over volume fraction. Mixing two microgels that collapse at different

För att bedöma säkerhetsnivån analyserades olika brandscenarion och för varje scenario analyserades två evakueringsscenariThis report is written with the purpose of investigating how safe Nicklagården, a nursing home, is in case of a fire. The aim is to evaluate the safety of the people within the building, structural and environmental damage will not be regarded within this report. To be able to assess the safety, different fire scenarios were analyzed, and two different evacuation scenarios were analyzed for each f
