Simulation of THz Quantum Cascade Lasers

Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs) have since their invention in 1994 become a crucial source for mid-infrared and THz radiation. Mid-infrared QCLs have achieved room temperature operation while THz QCLs have not. As such, simulations are an important tool in order to achieve a THz QCL operational at room temperature. This work uses a simulation package based on a nonequilibrium Green’s function model Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs) can be designed to emit radiation in the Terahertz (THz) range. For these frequencies, which are faster than electronics and slower than infrared light, there are currently only few devices facing a wide potential of applications. The realization of room temperature operation of THz QCLs would enable practical use in e.g. spectroscopy and public safety. The question i

The world is not a field : An interview with Michèle Lamont

In this interview, Michèle Lamont discusses her intellectual trajectory in relation to other sociologists and research fields. The starting point is her relationship to Bourdieu’s field theory in 1980s Paris. She describes how her empirically grounded work developed as a critique of Bourdieu’s oeuvre yet draws heavily on it. A common thread in her work is a focus on social and symbolic boundaries

Selling one's future : over-indebtedness and the risk of poor mental health and the role of precarious employment - results from the Scania Public Health Cohort, Sweden

Objectives: The credit market has expanded rapidly, increasing the risk of over-indebtedness among those who lack secure employment or adequate income, an issue of concern in the COVID-19 aftermath. We investigated the role of over-indebtedness for developing poor mental health, and whether this impact is modified by age, gender, educational level or being in precarious employment. Methods: This isOBJECTIVES: The credit market has expanded rapidly, increasing the risk of over-indebtedness among those who lack secure employment or adequate income, an issue of concern in the COVID-19 aftermath. Sökandet efter den allmänna passivitetsprincipen

This essay raises the question as to whether a general principle of passivity exists within the Swedish law. This is a question that has been discussed by practicing lawyers for decades, but which has become increasingly relevant recently as a result of HD's intensive treatment of the passivity issue. Within the Swedish law, freedom of contract prevails with the premise that a party only becom
