Om förtryckande strukturer

This paper is a critique of an article in the Swedish magazine Filosofisk Tidskrift (Philosophical Magazine), in which professor Per Bauhn maintains that there is something wrong with having a group perspective in moral and political matters. In this article Bauhn makes three conclusions. The first one is that you violate Hume's law if you draw the conclusion that something is an oppression on

Undervisning i konsultationsmetodik behövs i läkarutbildningen.

At Lund University Medical School communication skills are taught during both the preclinical and clinical part of the medical programme. As part of the training during the 5th year the students are required to videotape at least one patient consultation at a local primary health care centre. The students then meet in groups of 6-7 participants and a group leader to watch the recorded consultation

Modelling of Drug Release from Reservoir and Matrix Formulations - Multiple Unit Dosage Forms and Swelling and Dissolving Matrix Systems

MR imaging of spinal intramedullary tumors

The MR examinations in 25 patients with intramedullary tumors were analyzed. Seven patients were diagnosed with astrocytoma, 6 ependymoma, 2 unspecified glioma, 3 medulloblastoma, 2 metastasis, one neurinoma, and one teratoma. In 3 patients the diagnosis was uncertain. The tumors frequently involved a large portion of the cord and were often accompanied by intratumor necrosis, cystic degeneration,

Biogas generation in landfills : equilibria, rates & yields

Landfilling in "cells" has become more common in recent years. Different waste streams are guided to different cells, among which the biocell is a landfill designed for biogas production. In this thesis, the dependence of biogas generation on waste composition was investigated. Six 8,000 m3 test cells, with contents ranging from mainly commercial waste to pure domestic waste and equipped with gas

Effect of solids retention time and wastewater characteristics on biological phosphorus removal

The paper deals with the effect of wastewater, plant design and operation in relation to biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal and the possibilities to model the processes. Two Bio-P pilot plants were operated for 2.5 years in parallel receiving identical wastewater. The plants had SRT of 4 and 21 days, the latter had nitrification and denitrification. The plant with 4 days SRT had much more

Two monoclonal antibodies to precisely the same epitope of type II collagen select non-crossreactive phage clones by phage display: implications for autoimmunity and molecular mimicry

Two monoclonal antibodies (mAb) CB268 and CII-C1 to type 11 collagen (CII) react with precisely the same conformational epitope constituted by the residues ARGLT on the three chains of the CII triple helix. The antibodies share structural similarity, with most differences in the complementarity determining region 3 of the heavy chain (HCDR3). The fine reactivity of these mAbs was investigated by s

Increased stiffness of the abdominal aorta in women with rheumatoid arthritis.

Objective. To study the distensibility and the diameter of the abdominal aorta and the common carotid artery (CCA) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and investigate the relation between mechanical properties of these arteries and disease severity. Methods. One hundred and one patients with RA (33 consecutive cases with extra-articular manifestations, and 68 subjects with non-extra-artic

Point-of-care biomarkers for prediction of kidney function trajectory among sugarcane cutters : a comparative test accuracy study

Objectives Heat-stressed Mesoamerican workers, such as sugarcane cutters, suffer from high rates of chronic kidney disease of non-traditional origin (CKDnt). We aimed to identify easily available early markers of rapid kidney function decline in a population at high risk of CKDnt. Design The accuracy of different biomarkers measured during harvest for prediction of cross-harvest kidney function de

Genetically identical twins show comparable tau PET load and spatial distribution

Tau accumulation starts during the preclinical phase of Alzheimer's disease and is closely associated with cognitive decline. For preventive purposes, it is important to identify factors associated with tau accumulation and spread. Studying genetically identical twin-pairs may give insight into genetic and environmental contributions to tau pathology, as similarities in identical twin-pairs largel

Satisfaction and seizure outcomes of epilepsy surgery in tuberous sclerosis : A Swedish population-based long-term follow-up study

PURPOSE: We conducted a cross-sectional study to evaluate long-term outcomes of epilepsy surgery in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in a Swedish population.METHODS: Demographic and seizure data was retrieved from the Swedish National Epilepsy Surgery Registry and medical records. Patient reported outcome measurements (PROM) were determined by telephonic interviews at long term follow-up.RESULTS:

Y2Mo3O12–Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ cathode catalyst for proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells

The mismatch of the coefficients of thermal expansion between cathode and electrolyte is one of the thorniest problems for high-performance proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells (H–SOFCs). Here one strategy is applied by introducing the negative thermal expansion component, Y2Mo3O12 (YMO), on Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ (BSCF) cathode to overcome this difficulty. As a result, not only the electrol

Gravitational footprints of massive neutrinos and lepton number breaking

We investigate the production of primordial Gravitational Waves (GWs) arising from First Order Phase Transitions (FOPTs) associated to neutrino mass generation in the context of type-I and inverse seesaw schemes. We examine both “high-scale” as well as “low-scale” variants, with either explicit or spontaneously broken lepton number symmetry U(1)L in the neutrino sector. In the latter case, a pseud

Lidar reveals activity anomaly of malaria vectors during pan-African eclipse

Yearly, a quarter billion people are infected and a half a million killed by the mosquito-borne disease malaria. Lack of real-time observational tools for continuously assessing the unperturbed mosquito flight activity in situ limits progress toward improved vector control. We deployed a high-resolution entomological lidar to monitor a half-kilometer static transect adjacent to a Tanzanian village
