A central feature of internalizing mental disorders, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders, is the avoidance of rewarding situations to prevent the risk of experiencing distressing emotions. Previous research has shown that obsessive and anxious individuals avoid situations where rewards come at the cost of aversive experiences, a phenomenon termed costly avoidance. Cos

This thesis explores the parametric and nonparametric approaches for estimating Value at Risk and Expected Shortfall through foreign exchange exposure. The data for this study was provided by Trelleborg Group. We look at the translational risk on the balance sheet when translating the Groups investments in foreign subsidiaries to SEK. In the parametric approach we make the assumption that the po

It is well-known that the response to mechanical loading of nano-sized metal structures differs from what applies to the macroscopic scale, and often non-intuitive behaviors are revealed. Here beams of square cross section, containing defects in terms of voids and loaded in fatigue with R = 0 under displacement controlled conditions, are investigated. The structures under consideration are single-

This thesis is focused on the detail process of formation of mesoporous silica materials.Mesoporous silica materials are one type of porous materials with a pore size between 2 and 5 nm (1 nm=0.000 000 001 m). The pore walls consist of silicon dioxide – silica (sand also consists of silica). The mesoporous silica materials are formed by amphiphilic molecules, a kind of molecule with one part that We investigate the formation mechanism responsible for two specific systems of mesoporous silicas formed with the so-called co-structure directing agent (CSDA) route. The synthesis relies on the interactions between silica source (tetraethylorthosilicate, TEOS), surfactants and CSDA. The structures of the mesoporous silica materials were investigated mainly by small angle X-ray diffraction (SAXD),

Autoxidation of SO2(aq) in the presence of manganese(II) is one of the important pathways for sulfuric acid formation in atmospheric clouds and fogs. Recent experimental results indicating that the catalyzed reaction takes place via a complex free-radical mechanism are discussed. Previous literature is reviewed in the light of this mechanism. In order to achieve significant improvements in road safety at the national level, there is a need for a systematic approach to road safety management with clear responsibilities and accountability. In this paper – after a review of the literature on guidelines, recommendations and research findings – twelve essential elements of such a systematic approach are pointed out, and corresponding releva

This thesis investigates the development of labor market policies directed at immigrants in Sweden, during the period of 1968-2010. The theoretical framework is built around three distinct ideas concerning the concept of citizenship – one libertarian, one empowering and a last one called caring, in the sense that it emphasizes the responsibility of society. In this paper we investigate the performance of Nordic hedge funds in terms of their ability to earn abnormal returns during the period 2003-2011. We further test for the presence of short-term persistence during the period of disturbed market conditions. The single-index and four-factor models are used in order to estimate the traditional performance measures for individual funds as well as for p
