Similar views on rehabilitation following hip arthroscopy among physiotherapists and surgeons in Scandinavia : a specialized care survey
PURPOSE: The rising number of hip arthroscopies (HA) is leading to increasing numbers of patients requiring post-surgical rehabilitation; however, evidence regarding post-operative rehabilitation is currently limited. The purpose of the study was to describe and compare current rehabilitation strategies and views among surgeons and physiotherapists in Scandinavia.METHODS: Scandinavian surgeons and
Including Human Factors and Ergonomics in Requirements Engineering for Digital Work Environments
Digital technology plays an important role in our work places, and much time is spent in the virtual environments that technol-ogy provides. However, today’s digital work environments are often cumbersome and hard to use, and contribute to stress and ill-health with subsequent cost to the individual, to their employ-ers and to society. Our long-term aim is to facilitate the develop-ment of IT syst
From fighting the bad to protecting the good : Legitimation strategies in WADA's athlete guides
The global anti-doping effort in sport is based upon perceptions of the system as desirable, proper and appropriate and thus considered legitimate. The legitimacy of the anti-doping system has earlier been studied bottom-up, based on the views of athletes. In order to gain greater understanding of legitimation processes, it is also important to study legitimation strategies top-down, used by decis
The effect of the stay active advice on physical activity and on the course of acute severe low back pain.
Disability due to acute low back pain (ALBP) runs parallel with distress and physical inactivity. If low back pain persists, this may lead to long-term sick leave and chronic back pain. This prospective randomized study evaluated the effect on physical activity and on the course of ALBP of two different treatment advices provided in routine care.
Muscle Determinants of Bone Mass, Geometry and Strength in Prepubertal Girls.
PURPOSE:: The aim of this study was to compare the relative contribution of peak muscle force (isokinetic peak torque) with surrogate estimates of muscle force, including leg lean tissue mass (LTM) and vertical jump height (VJH), on bone mass, geometry and strength in healthy prepubertal girls (n = 103). METHODS:: Total leg and FN BMC and leg LTM were measured by DXA; the hip strength analysis pro
Self-efficacy, physical activity and health-related quality of life in middle-aged meniscectomy patients and controls.
Our purpose was to examine self-efficacy of knee function, physical activity (PA) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in post-meniscectomy patients and controls as well as to explore the impact of gender and the association between outcomes. Ninety-nine post-meniscectomy patients (27% women), mean age 44.5 years, mean (range) of follow-up time 3 (1-5) years, and 94 controls (34% women), mea
Objectively measured daily physical activity related to aerobic fitness in young children.
The purpose of this study was to investigate by direct measurement the cross-sectional relationship between accelerometer-measured physical activity and peak oxygen uptake ([Vdot]O(2peak): ml . min(-1) . kg(-1)), in a population-based cohort of young children, since such data are scarce. The study included 468 children (246 boys, 222 girls) aged 6.7 +/- 0.4 years, recruited from a population-based
THE DEVELOPMENT OF A WEEKLY E-DIARY FOR SELF-REPORTED INJURIES AND ILLNESSES IN PARALYMPIC SPORTS: THE SPORTS-RELATED INJURIES AND ILLNESSES IN PARALYMPIC SPORT STUDY (SRIIPSS)
Promoting individualism under the guise of uniformity : A bishop's instructions in late eighteenth-century Sweden
The ways in which a bureaucratic model of oversight could be turned into a vehicle of individualizing religious practices in late-eighteenth-century Sweden is the central concern of this chapter. It focuses on how bureaucratic measures could be used to implement enlightened reform, thereby offering a different perspective on ‘pastoral Enlightenment’ in the rural European North. By examining how Ol
Effects of an injury prevention program on anterior cruciate ligament injury risk factors in adolescent females at different stages of maturation
The ideal timing to implement anterior cruciate ligament injury prevention programs with respect to maturation is unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an injury prevention program on knee mechanics in early-, late-, and post-pubertal females. In the study, 178 adolescent female basketball players were assigned to six groups: early-pubertal training, early-pubertal c
The Impact of HIV Prevalence on Schooling Achievement in Sub-Saharan Africa: Evidence from the SACMEQ Assessments
This paper investigates the impact of HIV prevalence on schooling achievement. By associating data of schooling test results, for seven countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, with regional measures of HIV prevalence for 70 different regions, I find evidence that a general increase in HIV prevalence of about 1%, lowers general test score results of about 1% of a standard deviation from the mean. Endogene
Solceller på idrottshallar : en lönsamhetsstudie med Knislinge sporthall som utgångspunkt
This report aims to examine the economic conditions of photovoltaic systems in sports halls. It also intends to examine if it is economically viable to use the excess production from the solar electricity to heat up a hot water storage tank instead of selling it into the grid. This will be answered by studying Knislinge sports hall. Two different configurations of the solar system were investigat
Kvinnor inom tech-branschen
Sports Clubs’ Role in City Branding - What do they actually do?
In today’s city branding field, a gap exists between research and practice. A gap made more evident since the field has moved to prefer a participative approach, where stakeholders are more acknowledged as an important part of the city branding process, illustrating the little knowledge of stakeholders’ own practices. This study undertakes a mission of moving forward in the research field by shedd
