Destructive effects of murine arthritogenic antibodies to type II collagen on cartilage explants in vitro

Certain monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to type II collagen (CII) induce arthritis in vivo after passive transfer and have adverse effects on chondrocyte cultures and inhibit self assembly of collagen fibrils in vitro. We have examined whether such mAbs have detrimental effects on pre-existing cartilage. Bovine cartilage explants were cultured over 21 days in the presence of two arthritogenic mAbs to

Changing the game - The effects of a radical logo rebranding strategy on the consumer-brand relationship in football

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to provide an understanding of how consumer-brand relationships are affected by a radical rebranding strategy of a football club’s logo. This further leads the paper to contribute to the literature of consumer-brand relationships in the special context of football. Methodology: The interpretative nature of this research calls for a qualitative research appro

Automatic Landing without GPS

Sagem Défense et Sécurité (now Safran Electronics & Defense), a French space and defense company of the SAFRAN group, is working on the next generation of Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). This UAS features a fully automatic Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) equipped with a state-of-the-art navigation system. This navigation system relies mainly on a high-accuracy Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) coupl

Intercomparison of C-14 Analysis of Carbonaceous Aerosols: Exercise 2009

Radiocarbon analysis of the carbonaceous aerosol allows an apportionment of fossil and non-fossil sources of airborne particulate matter (PM). A chemical separation of total carbon (TC) into its subfractions organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) refines this powerful technique, as OC and EC originate from different sources and undergo different processes in the atmosphere. Although C-14 an

Dissecting the properties of circulating IgG against streptococcal pathogens through a combined systems antigenomics-serology workflow

This study showcases an integrative mass spectrometry-based strategy combining systems antigenomics and systems serology to characterize human antibodies in clinical samples. This strategy involves using antibodies circulating in plasma to affinity-enrich antigenic proteins in biochemically fractionated pools of bacterial proteins, followed by their identification and quantification using mass spe

Asymptotic Performance Analysis of Distributed Non-Bayesian Quickest Change Detection with Energy Harvesting Sensors

This paper focuses on the distributed non-Bayesian quickest change detection based on the Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) algorithm in an energy harvesting wireless sensor network (WSN), where the distributions before and after the change point are assumed to be known. Each sensor is powered by randomly available harvested energy from the surroundings. It samples the observation signal and computes the log

Creep Recovery and Elastic Modulus of High Performance Concrete

This article outlines an experimental and numerical study on short-term and long-term creep recovery in High Performance Concrete. About 200 cylinders and 800 cubes were tested. The ambient climate was held constant at 20 °C and 55% relative humidity. Results and analyses are presented as regards short-term and long-term creep recovery with some related properties. The creep deformations are separ

Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Combustion in PPC and Diesel Engines

Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Swirling Flows in Combustor Related Geometries

Popular Abstract in English The concern about pollutant emissions from combustion devices has stimulated the development of modern combustion devices. As one of the major power generation machines, modern gas turbine engine has been designed to run at fuel-lean and premixed mode of combustion in which the combustion temperature is moderate so that NOx emission is low. Combustion in premixed mode r

Large-Eddy Simulation of Supersonic Combustion in a Mach 2 Cavity Model Scramjet Combustor

In this study, we report on reactive large-eddy simulations (LESs) of flow and combustion in the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Research Cell 19 cavity-based scramjet combustor. This case involves the combustion of ethylene that is injected into a cavity. It has previously been studied experimentally with multiple techniques, including particle image velocimetry, hyperspectral imagining, and l
