Immigrant enclaves and risk of drug involvement among asylum-seeking immigrants in Sweden : A quasi-experimental study

Background: Sweden is a major host nation for asylum-seeking immigrants, and residential placement of these immigrants is an important policy concern. This quasi-experimental study estimated of the impact of being placed into an “immigrant enclave” on risk of officially-recognized drug involvement (ORDI) among asylum-seeking immigrants over a 15-year period. Methods: All data come from Swedish reg

Multi-agent AI enables evidence-based cell annotation in single-cell transcriptomics

Cell type annotation remains a critical bottleneck, with current methods often inaccurate and requiring extensive manual validation, particularly in disease contexts. While large language models (LLMs) show promise, they can be unreliable due to hallucinations. We developed CyteType, a multi-agent framework that generates competing hypotheses grounded in full expression data and study context, val

Insights from Single-cell Omics - Cellular Heterogeneity as a Foundation of Clinical Outcome in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

The BCR::ABL1 tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in CML represent a paradigm for molecularly targeted therapy. However, clinical outcomes - rate/depth of response, treatment-free remission (TFR), progression to blast crisis (BC) - and adverse events vary among patients. While additional somatic mutations have been invoked to explain varying clinical outcomes, we here propose a complementary perspec

Family history of venous thromboembolism as a risk factor and genetic research tool.

Familial clustering of venous thromboembolism (VTE) was described as far back as 1905 by Briggs. Although Egeberg discovered inherited deficiency of antithrombin in 1965, it was not until Dahlbäck discovered resistance to activated protein C in 1993 that it became clear that genetic factors are common risk factors of VTE. Several genes have been linked to familial aggregation of VTE and genome-wid

DNA sample cleanup using deterministic lateral displacement

Optical mapping relies on the preparation of fluorescent DNA. DNA must be imaged with good signal to noise and therefore the background of unwanted DNA fragments, fluorescent dyes and other reagents need to be removed. We use deterministic lateral displacement to separate 48.5 kbp DNA from < 10 kbp DNA. We also show the removal of 48.5 kbp DNA fragments from a background of fluorescent ATTO647N mo

Reimagining the Capitalocentric Present : Unpacking Fantasies of Ethical Consumption: Introducing new Consumer Ethics, and Establishing Sustainable Visions

In this conceptual paper we reimagine the Capitalocentric present. To do so, we (1) critique corporate fantasies about ethical consumption; (2) offer alternative relational ethics of consumption, with special attention to concrete neo-animist practices to imagine alternative futures to the Capitalocentric present, and (3) invite imaginative theorization as a bridge between present and future. In this conceptual paper we reimagine the Capitalocentric present. Thrombomodulin gene c.1418C>T polymorphism and risk of recurrent venous thromboembolism.

Thrombomodulin gene (THBD) is a critical cofactor in protein C anticoagulant system. THBD c.1418C>T polymorphism is reported to be associated with higher risk of primary venous thromboembolism (VTE) but its role in VTE recurrence is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of THBD polymorphism in VTE recurrence. THBD c.1418C>T polymorphism was genotyped by using Taqman polymerase

Sustainable Business Models through Service Design

In the face of growing sustainability challenges, pressure on businesses to decouple environmental impacts from growth is mounting. New sustainable business models can be a systemic driver for change in industry and the wider business innovation literature suggests that strategic design approaches can be at the heart of business model innovation. One such approach, service design, involves solving

Role of active surveillance and focal therapy in low- and intermediate-risk prostate cancers

Purpose: Low-risk prostate cancer is found in about half of newly diagnosed men subjected to PSA screening. Methods: To define the role of active surveillance and focal therapy in low- and intermediate-risk prostate cancers, an invited international panel of practicing physicians in the field of localized prostate cancer discussed the available literature in three consecutive meetings to come to a

Endometrial cancer and oral contraceptives : an individual participant meta-analysis of 27 276 women with endometrial cancer from 36 epidemiological studies

BACKGROUND: Oral contraceptives are known to reduce the incidence rate of endometrial cancer, but it is uncertain how long this effect lasts after use ceases, or whether it is modified by other factors.METHODS: Individual participant datasets were sought from principal investigators and provided centrally for 27 276 women with endometrial cancer (cases) and 115 743 without endometrial cancer (cont

Pharmacokinetic Evaluation of Once-Weekly and Once-Monthly Buprenorphine Subcutaneous Injection Depots (CAM2038) Versus Intravenous and Sublingual Buprenorphine in Healthy Volunteers Under Naltrexone Blockade : An Open-Label Phase 1 Study

Introduction: CAM2038 q1w (once weekly) and q4w (once monthly) are investigational buprenorphine subcutaneous (SC) formulations based on FluidCrystal® injection depot technology. These two drug products are being developed for opioid dependence treatment, with a target for once-weekly and once-monthly SC dosing. The rationale for developing two products with different dosing frequencies is that tr

Enzalutamide in Men with Chemotherapy-naïve Metastatic Castration-resistant Prostate Cancer : Extended Analysis of the Phase 3 PREVAIL Study

Enzalutamide significantly improved radiographic progression-free survival (rPFS) and overall survival (OS) among men with chemotherapy-naïve metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer at the prespecified interim analysis of PREVAIL, a phase 3, double-blind, randomized study. We evaluated the longer-term efficacy and safety of enzalutamide up to the prespecified number of deaths in the final

Reversing the trend of weak policy implementation in the Kenyan health sector? : A study of budget allocations and spending of health resources versus set priorities

Background: Policy implementation in the context of health systems is generally difficult and the Kenyan health sector situation is not an exception. In 2005, a new health sector strategic plan that outlines the vision and the policy direction of the health sector was launched and during the same year the health sector was allocated a substantial budget increment. On basis of these indications of
