Denna uppsats har som syfte att genom fyra utvalda tal av den framstående abolitionisten Frederick Douglass se hur, genom hans tal, en svart människas värde skildras i USA under tiden kring det amerikanska inbördeskriget och genom vilka retoriska medel han nådde fram med sitt budskap. För att få svar på frågeställningarna har denna uppsats använts sig av Renbergs retorikanalys som teori och metod.
