Automated evaluation of normal uptake in different skeletal parts in 18F-sodium fluoride (NaF) PET/CT using a new convolutional neural network method

Introduction: Understanding normal skeletal uptake of 18F-sodium fluoride (18F-NaF) in positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is important for clinical interpretation. Quantification of tracer uptake in PET/CT is often performed by placing a volume of interest (VOI) to measure standard uptake values (SUVs). Manual placement of this VOI requires a subjective decision and can only

Identification and characterization of murine glycoprotein 2-expressing intestinal dendritic cells

The intestinal lamina propria (LP) contains distinct subsets of classical dendritic cells (cDC), each playing key non-redundant roles in intestinal immune homeostasis. Here, we show that glycoprotein 2 (GP2), a GPI-anchored protein and receptor for bacterial type-I fimbriae, is selectively expressed by CD103+CD11b+ cDC in the murine small intestine (SI). GP2 expression was induced on CD103+CD11b+

PAM50 subtyping and ROR score add long-term prognostic information in premenopausal breast cancer patients

PAM50 intrinsic subtyping and risk of recurrence (ROR) score are approved for risk profiling in postmenopausal women. We aimed to examine their long-term prognostic value in terms of breast cancer-free interval (BCFi) and overall survival (OS) (n = 437) in premenopausal women randomised to 2 years of tamoxifen versus no systemic treatment irrespective of hormone-receptor status. Intrinsic subtypin

EDGE : What shapes the relationship between H i and stellar observables in faint dwarf galaxies?

We show how the interplay between feedback and mass-growth histories introduces scatter in the relationship between stellar and neutral gas properties of field faint dwarf galaxies (M∗ 106, M⊙). Across a suite of cosmological, high-resolution zoomed simulations, we find that dwarf galaxies of stellar masses 105 ≤ M∗ ≤ 106, M⊙ are bimodal in their cold gas content, being either H i-rich or H i-defi

HnRNP D activates production of HPV16 E1 and E6 mRNAs by promoting intron retention

Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) E1 and E6 proteins are produced from mRNAs with retained introns, but it has been unclear how these mRNAs are generated. Here, we report that hnRNP D act as a splicing inhibitor of HPV16 E1/E2- and E6/E7-mRNAs thereby generating intron-containing E1- and E6-mRNAs, respectively. N- and C-termini of hnRNP D contributed to HPV16 mRNA splicing control differently.

Increased Mortality Persists after Treatment of Cushing's Disease : A Matched Nationwide Cohort Study

Context: Whether biochemical remission normalizes life expectancy in Cushing's disease (CD) patients remains unclear. Previous studies evaluating mortality in CD are limited by using the expected number of deaths in the background population instead of the actual number in matched controls. Objective and setting: To study mortality by time-to-event analysis in an unselected nationwide CD patient c

Systemic Sustainability as Multiple Perspective Analysis

A systemic perspective could support an enterprise to integrate multiple organizational aspects to facilitate the implementation of sustainability in work practices. The study explores sustainability in SMEs work-practices from multiple stakeholder’ perspectives following a systemic approach to developing a systemic sustainability model proposal. This model intends to investigate sustainability’ r

Structural topology optimization of multibody systems

Flexible multibody dynamics (FMD) has found many applications in control, analysis and design of mechanical systems. FMD together with the theory of structural optimization can be used for designing multibody systems with bodies which are lighter, but stronger. Topology optimization of static structures is an active research topic in structural mechanics. However, the extension to the dynamic case

Anti-EF-Tu IgG titers increase with age and may contribute to protection against the respiratory pathogen Haemophilus influenzae

Non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is a pathogen that commonly colonizes the nasopharynx of preschool children, causing opportunistic infections including acute otitis media (AOM). Patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are persistently colonized with NTHi and occasionally suffer from exacerbations by the bacterium leading to increased morbidity. Elongation-fa

Plaque vulnerability index predicts cardiovascular events : A histological study of an endarterectomy cohort

BACKGROUND: The balance between stabilizing and destabilizing atherosclerotic plaque components is used in experimental studies and in imaging studies to identify rupture prone plaques. However, we lack the evidence that this balance predicts future cardiovascular events. Here we explore whether a calculated histological ratio, referred to as vulnerability index (VI), can predict patients at highe

The Borg scale is a sustainable method for prescribing and monitoring self-administered aerobic endurance exercise in patients with chronic kidney disease

Aim: To examine adherence, performance, and safety of self-administered aerobic endurance exercise when exercise intensity was prescribed and self-monitored with the Borg RPE scale in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and the relationship between performed exercise and change in walking distance. Materials and Methods: 97 men and 50 women (age 66 ± 14 years, measured GFR 22 ± 8 mL/min/1.

Integrated approach to study river fluxes, water and sediment sources apportionment in sparsely monitored catchment

The paper presents an integrated approach for the apportionment of water and sediment sources and pathways in ungauged territories. The approach comprises various elements such as a large-scale semi-distributed hydrological and erosion model (using the SWAT tool), a statistical assessment of regular discharge data, the discrimination of runoff sources using end-member mixing analysis (EMMA), the a

Digital exclusion of migrant women induced by emerging technologies: a review of current studies and research agenda

The aim of this paper is to shed light on the reasons found in the literature behind digital exclusion of migrant women and propose a new framework that can be used to further research this issue when considering emergent technologies. The literature was first reviewed to identify existing knowledge and to highlight any gaps in research. The review revealed that there is a lack of theoretical fram

En litteraturstudie har gThe Swedish Real Property Formation Act (1970:988), 3rd Chapter, 5th and 7th §§ (FBL 3:5 and 3:7) regulates protection of forested real property. The trial in practice have been investigated through an analysis of records of cadastral procedures performed in Sweden from 2004 to spring 2016. The most important conclusion of the investigation is that the trial is heterogeneous over the country. It h

Beyond Mean-Field Description of Bose-Einstein Condensate

This thesis work is on the theoretical description of dilute Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) that are non-uniform, meaning that more than one single-particle state is occupied. This phenomenon is usually called quantum depletion. A common model for the ground state of a dilute and weakly interacting BEC is the mean-field (MF) approximation leading to the Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation. However, fo

Generalstrejk, sabotage och terror: anarkosyndikalisternas strategi före första världskriget i D. Novomirskijs och A. Jensens skrifter

This essay investigates the revolutionary strategy of the anarcho-syndicalists in Russia and Sweden before the World War I. The purpose of the research is to gain new knowledge about the relationship between the goal and the method from the point of view of the ideology of anarchosyndicalism. The study explores how the same ideology shaped strategy in two different national contexts. Publications

Back to Basics: How Trump’s Zero Tolerance Policy evidenced the Inefficiency of the Human Rights Framework, and the Urgency to re-center Human Dignity

In 2018, images of migrant children held in cages and sleeping on concrete floors while being held in immigration detention in the United States shocked the world. Within the framework of the zero tolerance policy on immigration mandated by President Trump, thousands of families have been separated at the border. The trauma borne out of these separations was purposefully capitalized upon to serve

The Impact of Country-Specific Contextual Factors on the Outcome of Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act Regulating Conflict Minerals in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The conflict mineral crisis has been ongoing in the DRC for nearly two decades, with armed groups and increased military presence have played on the tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold to fund a brutal war across the eastern region of the country. Recent international efforts to tackle such illicit trade in conflict minerals has focused on requiring relevant stakeholders involved in the mineral sourc

I svensk rätt finns inget straffbud som uttryckligen tar siktThe term “economic violence” is a concept that is relatively unfamiliar to many, which only in recent years has begun to find its way into the media and the general social debate. Many researchers regard economic violence as a very serious issue and, above all, as a major risk that may cause women that are victims of domestic violence to stay in a violent relationship. In Swedish law, there are n
