Media Path to Identity : The Journey of Vietnamese Young Generation Making Sense of Their Identity in the Media Space

Recent research has noticed that the picture of the second-generation immigrants negotiating their identity in media space is different and far more complex than the first generation. With their emergence in the new age of digitalisation, the second-generation immigrant is offered more media choices and freedom of access to the two most important cultural sets of host and homeland country to make

Familial Risks for Type 2 Diabetes in Sweden

OBJECTIVE - Our aim was to characterize familial risks for type 2 diabetes by the type and number of affected family members, including half-siblings, adoptees, and spouses, to quantify risks and estimate the contribution of environmental effect. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS - Families were identified from the Multigeneration Register, and type 2 diabetic patients were obtained from the Hospital Di

Early changes in myocardial repolarization and coronary perfusion after cardiopulmonary bypass surgery for ASD repair in children

Background: In adults, impaired myocardial repolarization and increased risk of arrhythmia are known consequences of open heart surgery. Little is known, however, about post-operative consequences of cardiopulmonary bypass surgery in children. The aim of this study was to assess ventricular repolarization and coronary perfusion after bypass surgery for atrial septal defect (ASD) repair in children

Mesenteric lymph node spread and optimal lymph node resection in colon cancer

Introduction Colon cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer world wide, with an incidence of almost 1 million cases anually. Surgery is a prerequisite for cure and the majority of patients are potentially curable at diagnosis. For a surgical resection to be curative the surgeon needs to remove the tumour together with all affected regional lymph nodes. How extensive the mesenteric resecti

Scaffolding Company Initiative to Improve Psychosocial Work Environment of Workers

identity through work gives a necessary context for a meaningful life. Work pace control, autonomy, learning new skills, or participation in company decision making are specific psychological factors included in the job control dimension. On the other hand, high absenteeism and poor health are symptoms used to associate with poor psychosocial working environment. This industry paper presents the e

Artikel 7.1 i varumärkesdirektivet - en studie av den varumärkesrättsliga konsumtionsprincipen

The conditions for legality of European Community action raise the essential issue as to the limits of Community competence. It is plain that the Community only holds those powers it has been attributed under the Treaty. However, to delimit those powers has proven to be very difficult. This is problem is widely recognised and will be dealt with at the IGC in 2004. While the Community is founded up

Is TPM a dirty word? Digital rights management-systems and video games within the EU

Detta leder till att den upphovsrättsliga klassificeringen varierar beroende på aktuell jurisdikThe video game poses a challenge in terms of copyright protection due to the complexity and novelty of its nature, in essence being comprised of multiple copyrightable elements, resulting in jurisdictionally diverse legal classification and harmonisation within the EU is not yet achieved. As the varying options of copyright classification of video game affects the applicability of EU anti-circumve

Uppgiftsskydd och marknadsexklusivitet har funnits i EU:s lagstiftning sedan 1987 men har först de senaste åren fått en ökad betydelse Data exclusivity and marketing exclusivity are two new forms intellectual property rights, for the benefit of pharmaceutical companies. They constitute a complement to other IPRs, including patent and copyright, and are intended to provide new pharmaceutical products with a limited time of protection against competition. Data exclusivity and marketing exclusivity has been a part of EU legislation

Long-term risk of osteoporotic fracture in Malmo

The objectives of the present study were to estimate long-term risks of osteoporotic fractures. The incidence of hip, distal forearm, proximal humerus and vertebral fracture were obtained from patient records in Malmo, Sweden. Vertebral fractures were confined to those coming to clinical attention, either as an inpatient or an outpatient case. Patient records were examined to exclude individuals w

Overdoses, suicidal behaviour and clinical characteristics in heavy drug users. Studies in the Criminal Justice System.

Background: Substance use disorders and complications, such as drug overdose (OD) and suicide attempt (SA), are common among criminal justice clients. Methods: Since 2001, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service has assessed substance-using clients with the Addiction Severity Index (ASI), a semi-structured instrument widely used to examine substance-related problems in different domains of life.

Changes in implant choice and surgical technique for hemiarthroplasty: 21,346 procedures from the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register 2005-2009

Background and purpose Treatment of displaced femoral neck fractures in Sweden has shifted towards more arthroplasties, especially hemiarthroplasties. We describe the hemiarthroplasty population in Sweden 2005 through 2009. Methods Since 2005, the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register has registered hemiarthroplasties on a national basis. We assessed hemiarthroplasty procedures in the Register 2005-20

Fracture predictive ability of physical performance tests and history of falls in elderly women: a 10-year prospective study

A Summary In a large cohort of elderly women followed for 10 years, we found that balance, gait speed, and self-reported history of fall independently predicted fracture. These clinical risk factors are easily evaluated and therefore advantageous in a clinical setting. They would improve fracture risk assessment and thereby also fracture prevention. Introduction The aim of this study was to identi

Kinetics of cisplatin binding to short r(GG) containing miRNA mimics - influence of Na(+)versus K(+), temperature and hydrophobicity on reactivity.

Nucleic acids are well recognized targets for platinum-based anticancer drugs, with RNA and DNA being kinetically comparable. In the case of RNA, previous studies have shown that the reaction between small duplex RNAs (dsRNAs) and monoaquated cisplatin (cis-Pt(NH3)2Cl(OH2)(+), ) can be followed by the metal induced hyperchromicity occurring directly after addition of to e.g. microRNA mimics. In th

Long-term prognosis after healed amputation in patients with diabetes

In this prospective study, mortality, rehabilitation, and new amputations on the same or on the contralateral leg were studied in 189 patients with diabetes who had achieved healing of an index amputation. Ninety-three patients had achieved healing after an index minor (below the ankle) and 96 after an index major (above the ankle) amputation, precipitated by a foot ulcer. The healing time was 29

Relating forest damage data to the wind field from high-resolution RCM simulations: Case study of Anatol striking Sweden in December 1999

Forestry is of major economical importance in Europe, and recent devastating windstorms have pinpointed the vulnerability of this economic sector to windstorms. Forest damage is an important economic issue at a country level and may become even of larger concern under future conditions following global warming. An underlying question is to what extent the storm damage is due to changes in the wind

Serum Fibroblast Growth Factor-23 (FGF-23) and Fracture Risk in Elderly Men

A normal mineral metabolism is integral for skeletal development and preservation of bone integrity. Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) is a bone-derived circulating factor that decreases serum concentrations of inorganic phosphorous (P-i) and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D-3 [1,25(OH)(2)D-3]. Increased FGF-23 expression is a direct or indirect culprit in several skeletal disorders; however, the relati

GLP-1 released to the mesenteric lymph duct in mice: Effects of glucose and fat.

Using a newly developed in vivo model measuring glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in gut lymphatics in mice, we quantified GLP-1 secretion in vivo after glucose versus fat ingestion with and without concomitant DPP-4 inhibition. The mesenteric lymphatic duct was cannulated in anesthetized C57BL6/J mice and lymph was collected in 30min intervals. Glucose or fat emulsion (Intralipid(R)) (0.03, 0.1 or
