Ultrathin carbon film electrodes from vacuum-carbonised cellulose nanofibril composite

A novel way to produce ultrathin transparent carbon layers on tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) substrates is developed. The ITO surface is coated with cellulose nanofibrils (from sisal) via layer-by-layer electrostatic binding with poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) or PDDAC acting as the binder. The cellulose nanofibril-PDDAC composite film is then vacuum-carbonised at 5008C. The resulting carbon

Where's the beef? The feminisation of weight-loss dieting in Britain and Scandinavia c.1890–1925

Representations of the slim body have traditionally been at the centre of scholarly interest in dieting culture, whereas food often remains a shadowy presence compared with more persistent themes of body discipline, slenderness and anti-fat messages. This article offers a different perspective on weight-loss dieting, placing food at the very centre of the analysis. By examining different diets in

A first glance at the coordination between the courses given by Environmental and Energy Systems Studies

This project studies coordination between the courses given by Environmental and Energy Systems Studies (IMES). The existence of an improvement gap and the aims for the coordination work at IMES were identified. Several areas for coordination were identified and their prioritisation and which issues within them to start working with were studied. Important aspects for structuring the coordination

Numerical and experimental investigations on residual stress evolution of multiple sequential cuts in turning

Residual stress is of great importance on the fatigue life of components; nevertheless, most of the simulations of turning operation focus on the first cut and ignore the evolution of residual stress in sequential cutting. The present study aims to explore the surface residual stress profile along the feed direction during longitudinal turning, to understand the impact of sequential cuts on turnin

Artisanal and small-scale mining through a “labour regime” lens: Consolidating a research agenda on labour exploitation

This article examines the way the notion of labour regime in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) research can contribute to new ways of conceptualising this sector's challenges. It starts by reviewing how the phenomenal expansion of ASM over the last decades has been problematised, and highlights the need to better understand what drives artisanal miners to operate under extremely precarious wo

Measurement of the cross-sections of the electroweak and total production of a Zγ pair in association with two jets in pp collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

This Letter presents the measurement of the fiducial and differential cross-sections of the electroweak production of a Zγ pair in association with two jets. The analysis uses 140 fb−1 of LHC proton–proton collision data taken at s=13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector during the years 2015–2018. Events with a Z boson candidate decaying into either an e+e− or μ+μ− pair, a photon and two jets are s

The politics of immortality in Rosenzweig, Barth and Goldberg : Theology and resistance between 1914-1945

Highlighting the central importance of theological configurations of immortality and eternal life from 1914-1945, Mårten Björk explores the key writings of Franz Rosenzweig, Karl Barth and Oskar Goldberg to situate their ideas in relation to the political turmoil of the period, including the rise of social Darwinism, nationalism and fascism. The conversations happening among Christian and Jewish t

ATLAS flavour-tagging algorithms for the LHC Run 2 pp collision dataset

The flavour-tagging algorithms developed by the ATLAS Collaboration and used to analyse its dataset of s=13 TeV pp collisions from Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider are presented. These new tagging algorithms are based on recurrent and deep neural networks, and their performance is evaluated in simulated collision events. These developments yield considerable improvements over previous jet-flavou

A SIRT7-dependent acetylation switch regulates early B cell differentiation and lineage commitment through Pax5

B lymphopoiesis is orchestrated by lineage-specific transcription factors. In B cell progenitors, lineage commitment is mediated by Pax5, which is commonly mutated in B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Despite its essential role in immunity, the mechanisms regulating Pax5 function remain largely unknown. Here, we found that the NAD+-dependent enzyme SIRT7 coordinates B cell development through d

String teachers on the challenges of intonation : A report from Sweden

Challenges of intonation derive from discrepancies between justly tuned intervals. In theoretical literature, string intonation is depicted as a balancing act between melodic and harmonic ideals, or between distinct tuning systems. However, practical string teachers’ and empirical researchers’ accounts sometimes appear to bypass such theory, focusing instead more informally on listening, kinesthet

Arable cultivation in grassland and the influence on avian populations

Många studier påvisar hur olika faktorer som följer med det moMany bird species living in farmland habitats have suffered severe declines in recent years. This fact has been object to many studies and the reasons for the decline are many, but it all comes down to effects of our shift to a more effective farmland management. We use the land in a more intense way than before. The use of chemicals has effect both on the birds and their food resources. A more ho

Data har samlats in med hjälp av ett självskattningsformulär bestående av Soc-13, UWES-9, Satisfaction withThis study examines whether there is a positive correlation between Sense of Coherence and Work Life balance among elementary school teachers. Furthermore, work engagement and satisfaction with Work Life balance of the teachers will be examined to see if a mediation of the correlation exists. Data was collected through a self-assessment questionnaire consisting of Soc-13, UWES-9, Satisfaction with

Acid hydrolysation of starch and formulation of starch microspheres

I denna studie skall stärkelse användas för att kapsla in jästceThe aim of this diploma work is to investigate the acid hydrolyses of two types of starch, waxy barley and maize starch to be applied for further usage, in rheology studies and formulation of starch microspheres. Modified starch has always been essential in many areas, especially in tablets, where it could be used as a disintegrant. Starch has also been investigated for manufacturing microspheres.

Modelling albedo in the ablation zone of the Greenland ice sheet

Abstract An ice sheet always experience more or less melting during the summer. How much melting that occurs, is mostly determined by the albedo. Albedo is defined as the amount of the incoming shortwave radiation that gets reflected by a surface. When the sunlight starts melting the ice and snow in the summer, the albedo gets lower. The lower albedo itself causes more absorption of radiation, wh

Kommun sökes för ömsesidigt partnerskap

A small yet substantial share of Swedish municipalities have chosen to engage in development aid projects. While examining the incentives behind local authorities’ engagement in non-compulsory projects, this study contributes to the broader research on public policy and organizational theory, as it investigates how reforms are initiated, adopted and spread. The research process consists of three

Production of charged pions, kaons and protons at large transverse momenta in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV

Transverse momentum spectra of pi(+/-), K-+/- and p((p) over bar) up to p(T) = 20 GeV/c at mid-rapidity in pp, peripheral (60-80%) and central (0-5%) Pb-Pb collisions at v root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV have been measured using the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The proton-to-pion and the kaon-to-pionratios both show a distinct peak at p(T) approximate to 3 GeV/c in central Pb-Pb collisions.

NMR Imaging of Flow and Perfusion using Hyperpolarized Nuclei: Theoretical Considerations and Application to Experimental Models

In the studies presented in this thesis, hyperpolarized tracers have been used for the study of macroscopic flow and capillary perfusion with magnetic resonance imaging. The feasibility of performing vascular studies using echo-planar imaging (EPI) and hyperpolarized 129Xe was investigated using xenon dissolved in ethanol prior to injection into a flow phantom. It was concluded that hyperpolarized
