Pressure-induced phase transitions in alpha-ZrMo2O8

We report high-pressure Raman, infrared (IR), and optical-absorption spectra of alpha-ZrMo2O8 (trigonal) up to 38 GPa at room temperature. The spectroscopic studies are consistent with diffraction results that show that alpha-ZrMo2O8 transforms into delta-ZrMo2O8 (monoclinic) at about 1 GPa and the delta phase converts to the epsilon phase (trielinic) at about 2.0 GPa. Optical-absorption measureme

Intrinsic and extrinsic factors controlling the differentiation of human midbrain progenitor cells

Levodopa treatment provides marked symptomatic relief. However, within 5-10 years after the start of Levodopa treatment, most PD patients display a gradual loss of drug efficacy. Importantly, the neuropathology of PD is dominated by a marked loss of dopaminergic neurons located in the substantia nigra.

Pre-Term Delivery and Risk of Ischemic Heart Disease in Women

Background: Women who deliver pre-term have been reported to have increased future risks of cardiometabolic disorders. However, their long-term risks of ischemic heart disease (IHD) and whether such risks are due to shared familial factors are unclear. A better understanding of these risks may help improve long-term clinical follow-up and interventions to prevent IHD in women. Objectives: The purp

Monte Carlo event generation of photon-photon collisions at colliders

In addition to being interesting in itself, the photon-photon interactions will be an inevitable background for the future electron-positron colliders. Thus to be able to quantify the potential of future electron-positron colliders it is important to have an accurate description of these collisions. Here we present our ongoing work to implement the photon-photon collisions in the Pythia 8 event ge

Multi-Level Gas Monitoring : A New Approach in Earthquake Research

Fluid anomalies were often considered as possible precursors before earthquakes. However, fluid properties at the surface can change for a variety of reasons, including environmental changes near the surface, the response of the superficial fluid system to loads associated with the mechanical nucleation of earthquake fractures, or as a result of transients in fluid flow from the depths. A key prob

Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes and Long-Term Risk of Heart Failure in Women : National Cohort and Co-Sibling Study

Background: Adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as preterm delivery and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, may be associated with higher future risks of heart failure (HF). However, the comparative effects of different adverse pregnancy outcomes on long-term risk of HF, and their potential causality, are unclear. OBJECTIVES: The authors sought to examine 5 major adverse pregnancy outcomes in relati

Acute kidney injury after lung transplantation, incidence, risk factors, and effects : A Swedish nationwide study

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious complication after lung transplantation, but the reported incidence varies in the literature. No data on AKI have been published from the Swedish lung transplantation program. Methods: The aim of our study was to investigate the incidence, perioperative risk factors, and effects of early postoperative acute kidney injury (Kidney Disease Improving

"Alla pratar om reception men vad menar dom?" - Lärarutbildares erfarenheter av arbete med estetisk kommunikation ur ett mottagarperspektiv med särskilda aspekter på reception av musik

Title: "Everybody is talking about reception but what do they really mean?" - Teacher trainers' experience of work with aesthetic communication in perspective of a receiver with a special attention to the reception of music. The purpose of this thesis is to study the notion of reception among a group of teachers at the department of education at Malmö University. Our principal aim is

Reliability of a new risk assessment method for visual ergonomics

Introduction: The Visual Ergonomics Risk Assessment Method (VERAM) is a newly developed and validated method to assess visual ergonomics at workplaces. VERAM consists of a questionnaire and an objective evaluation. Objective: To evaluate reliability of VERAM by assessing test-retest reliability of the questionnaire, and intra- and inter-rater reliability of the objective evaluation. Methods: Forty

Products, Performance, and Technological Development of Ambulatory Oxygen Therapy Devices : Scoping Review

Background: Ambulatory oxygen therapy is prescribed for patients with chronic lung diseases who experience exertional hypoxemia. However, available devices may not adequately meet user requirements, and their performance characteristics are heterogeneous. Objective: This study aims to identify devices available for delivery of ambulatory oxygen therapy, the technologies that they use to generate o

Eating patterns in relation to anthropometrics and blood pressure among adults with overweight and obesity – a cross-sectional study

Background: This study aimed to describe eating patterns among individuals with overweight and obesity and to investigate associations between eating patterns and anthropometric measures, including body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference, and blood pressure. Methods: This study enrolled a cohort of adults with overweight or obesity (n = 176) participating in a clinical trial focused on weigh

How perceived trust from the state influences citizens’ political trust

For decades, scholars have debated the decline in political trust as both an indicator and a driver of democratic crisis and civic disengagement. The focus of this previous research has been primarily on how political trust can be bolstered or maintained. Drawing on research from interpersonal and organizational mutual trust, we argue, however, that political trust is not only influenced by govern

Interaction between oxygen saturation and renal function on 30-day mortality in emergency department patients

Emerging evidence suggests that bidirectional lung–kidney crosstalk may influence outcomes, but this has not been systematically evaluated in unselected emergency department populations. We therefore examined the association between peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO₂), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and 30‑day mortality, and tested whether the prognostic association of oxygenation wi

Development of silicon microstructures and thin-film MALDI target plates for automated proteomics sample identifications

Here we report on the development of a proteomic platform utilizing a piezoelectric flow-through dispensing unit made from silicon microstructures. The use of a novel surface coating, where matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI MS) targets were uniformly precoated with a thin film of matrix/nitrocellulose, made the sample preparation straightforward an

Cost effectiveness of HIV and sexual reproductive health interventions targeting sex workers : A systematic review

Background: Sex workers have high incidences of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Although, interventions targeting sex workers have shown to be effective, evidence on which strategies are most cost-effective is limited. This study aims to systematically review evidence on the cost-effectiveness of sexual health interventions for sex workers on a global level. It also evaluates the qual

Comparison between silicon photomultiplier-based and conventional PET/CT in patients with suspected lung cancer—a pilot study

Background: Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Early detection and correct staging are fundamental for treatment and prognosis. Positron emission tomography with computed tomography (PET/CT) is recommended clinically. Silicon (Si) photomultiplier (PM)-based PET technology and new reconstruction algorithms are hoped to increase the detection of small lesions and enable earl

Distribution and variation of indoor temperatures in apartment blocks with individual metering and billing of space heating costs—on building, apartment, and room level

A good indoor thermal climate is important. To reduce energy demands for space heating, individual metering and billing (IMB) for space heating costs is common, though not yet in Sweden. To obtain a better picture of the thermal climate conditions, the distribution of the measured indoor temperatures was investigated in each apartment in 14 apartment blocks with a total of 419 apartments.
