Kinetics and Mechanism for Chloride Anation of Some Platinum(IV) Aqua Complexes in the Presence of Platinum(II))

Chloride anations of PtCl5H2O−, trans-PtCl4(H2O)2 and trans-Pt(CN)4ClH2O− in the presence of PtCl42− have been studied at 50°C in 1.00M perchloric acid medium. It is shown that PtCl5H2O− is formed as the primary reaction product in the two last-mentioned anations. This is not compatible with the generally used mechanism for platinum(II)-catalyzed platinum (IV) substitutions, which gives PtCl62− asChloride anations of PtCl5H2O−, trans-PtCl4(H2O)2 and trans-Pt(CN)4ClH2O− in the presence of PtCl42− have been studied at 50°C in 1.00M perchloric acid medium. Neutrophil infiltration in peritoneal metastasis affects prognosis in patients with ovarian cancer

The impact on prognosis of neutrophil infiltration in the microenvironment of ovarian cancer remains to be elucidated. In this study, we analyzed the association between neutrophil infiltration in peritoneal metastasis and prognosis. Furthermore, we analyzed the correlation between neutrophil infiltration in peritoneal metastasis and the number of peripheral blood neutrophils, the degree of neutro

Imaging in gynecological disease (29) : clinical and ultrasound features of primary ovarian immature teratoma

Objective: To describe the clinical and ultrasound characteristics at the time of diagnosis of primary ovarian immature teratoma with no other germ cell tumor components described on histopathology. Methods: This was a retrospective study of women with a histological diagnosis of primary ovarian immature teratoma who had undergone a preoperative ultrasound examination between 1998 and 2024. Cases

Modeling anti-tumor immune responses using patient-derived melanoma organoids

Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy can restore T cell function in tumors, but not all patients benefit, and the mechanisms behind this remain unclear. In this study, we used patient-derived organotypic (PDO) cultures from metastatic melanoma to examine transcriptomic and cellular changes following ex vivo T cell stimulation. Genomic and transcriptomic features were preserved during PDO forma

The effects of lipophilic substances on the shape of erythrocytes demonstrated by a new in vitro-method

Abstract Low aqueous solubility of lipophilic agents, such as free fatty acids, hampers proper in vitro demonstration of biological effects, yielding an ambiguous in vitro-in vivo correlation. We have therefore developed a method for evaluating the acute effects of lipophilic substances on the shape of erythrocytes and estimated EC50 and Hill coefficient according to the sigmoidal Emax model. T

Experimental weathering of biotite, muscovite and vermiculite: a Mossbauer spectroscopy study

Biotite, muscovite and vermiculite were treated in HCl and H2SO4 solutions at pH ranging between 7 and 1. The solid residue was studied using Mossbauer spectroscopy at room temperature. The spectra of the untreated samples, D0Bio, D0Mus and DOVer were fitted assuming quadrupole splitting distribution, QSD. Different fitting models with different combinations of Gaussian components for the Fe sites

Subarctic atmospheric aerosol composition: 1. Ambient aerosol characterization

Subarctic aerosol was sampled during July 2007 at the Abisko Research Station Stordalen field site operated by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Located in northern Sweden at 68 degrees latitude and 385 m above sea level (m asl), this site is classified as a semicontinuous permafrost mire. Number density, size distribution, cloud condensation nucleus properties, and chemical composition of th

Prognostic performance of preoperative cardiac troponin and perioperative changes in cardiac troponin for the prediction of major adverse cardiac events and mortality in noncardiac surgery : A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background Increased postoperative cardiac troponin (cTn) independently predicts short-term mortality. Previous studies suggest that preoperative cTn also predicts major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and mortality after noncardiac surgery. The value of preoperative and perioperative changes in cTn as a prognostic tool for adverse outcomes has been sparsely investigated. Methods and findings

Carotid Endarterectomy After Intracranial Endovascular Thrombectomy for Acute Ischaemic Stroke in Patients with Carotid Artery Stenosis

Objective: Recent randomised controlled trials demonstrated the benefit of intracranial endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in acute ischaemic stroke. There is no consensus, however, on how to treat concomitant extracranial carotid artery stenosis after EVT. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome in patients treated with carotid endarterectomy (CEA) after EVT, comparing complication rates a

The Advantage of FLASH Radiotherapy Confirmed in Mini-pig and Cat-cancer Patients

Purpose: Previous studies using FLASH radiotherapy (RT) in mice showed a marked increase of the differential effect between normal tissue and tumors. To stimulate clinical transfer, we evaluated whether this effect could also occur in higher mammals. Experimental Design: Pig skin was used to investigate a potential difference in toxicity between irradiation delivered at an ultrahigh dose rate call

Proteomic exploration of common pathophysiological pathways in diabetes and cardiovascular disease

AIMS: The epidemiological association between diabetes and cardiovascular disease is well established, but the pathophysiological link is complex and multifactorial. We investigated seven proteins, previously linked to incident diabetes mellitus, and their association with cardiovascular disease and mortality.METHODS AND RESULTS: Plasma samples from 1713 individuals from the Swedish population-bas

Endovascular aneurysm repair for symptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysms has comparable results to elective repair in the long term

Objective: Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has been extensively study regarding elective and ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair. However, much less is known about EVAR of symptomatic nonruptured AAA, especially concerning the long-term results. The aim of this study was to assess the outcomes of EVAR of symptomatic AAA compared with asymptomatic AAA at a tertiary center using a si

The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of joint fusion and bone formation in dogs undergoing atlantoaxial arthrodesis after removal of articular cartilage associated or not to implant homogenous or autogenous cancellous bone. Twelve dogs, weighing between 8 and 12kg were randomly divided into three groups. Group I (GI) performed only the removal of joint cartilage and joint immobilizatio

Can MM/GBSA calculations be sped up by system truncation?

We have studied whether calculations of the binding free energy of small ligands to a protein by the MM/GBSA approach (molecular mechanics combined with generalized Born and surface area solvation) can be sped up by including only a restricted number of atoms close to the ligand. If the protein is truncated before the molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, quite large changes are observed for the ca

External quality assessment of noninvasive fetal RHD genotyping

Background and objectives: Fetal RHD genotyping of cell-free maternal plasma DNA from RhD negative pregnant women can be used to guide targeted antenatal and postnatal anti-D prophylaxis for the prevention of RhD immunization. To assure the quality of clinical testing, we conducted an external quality assessment workshop with the participation of 31 laboratories. Materials and methods: Aliquots of
