Same conditions for spring semester 2021 as for the autumn 2020

Interactions of intrinsically disordered peptides with phospholipid bilayers

The main goal of this thesis has been to investigate the interaction of the intrinsically disordered peptide Histatin 5 (Hst5), with phospholipid bilayers, using a mixture of experimental and computational techniques, such as, small- angle X-ray scattering, circular dichroism, neutron reflectometry, quartz-crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring, atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, The main goal of this thesis has been to investigate the interaction of the intrinsically disordered peptide Histatin 5 (Hst5), with phospholipid bilayers, using a mixture of experimental and computational techniques, such as, small- angle X-ray scattering, circular dichroism, neutron reflectometry, quartz-crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring, atomistic molecular dynamics simulations,

The Phases of a Discrete Flow of Particles on Graphs

We study in detail the linear flow of particles on a graph with one vertex and k+1 infinite edges. This has a rich environment with many different emergent behaviours depending on the system parameters. The abrupt change in the behaviour of the system along a continuous change of the parameters manifests multiple phase transitions. We discuss the physical interpretation of the considered simple modWe study in detail the linear flow of particles on a graph with onevertex and k+1 infinite edges. ”Critical thinking is at the centre of the programme”

Andrea from Guatemala chose the Master’s in Social Studies of Gender for its interdisciplinary approach and international environment. Drawn to critical theory and collaborative learning, she values how the programme brings diverse perspectives together and fosters meaningful knowledge exchange.Andrea from Guatemala chose the Master’s in Social Studies of Gender for its interdisciplinary approach and international environment. Elder Abuse as Constructed by Dagens Nyheter: A Foucauldian Discourse Analysis

In order to analyze how the concept of elder abuse was constructed within the narrative of a newspaper article series, Foucauldian Discourse Analysis (FDA) was applied to 175 newspaper articles following the Carema Care elder abuse case. The articles used for the study were published by DN.se, the online version of the Swedish morning newspaper Dagens Nyheter, between 2011-10-11 and 2012-10-11. Th

Wild Growth

Urbanization has led to a concerning decline in biodiversity within cities, necessitating innovative approaches and greening efforts. This project, named “Wild Growth” is aimed at combating urban biodiversity loss, and increasing pollinator-friendly areas, through the design and development of a flower seed spreader. Inspired by principles of simplicity, accessibility, and sustainability, the see

Turning to Service Users for the Understanding of Current and Future Mental Health Services in the Development Process of Research and Practice: A Qualitative Study

AimTo understand service users' experiences of their current mental health services and explore reflections on the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) model and its role in future practice.MethodsA total of 17 experts participated in individual and dyadic in-depth interviews. A reflexive thematic analysis was performed on the participants' experiences of current mental health services anBackground: A person-centred and recovery-oriented approach is an integral part of modern mental health services founded on the experiential knowledge of service users. Their reflections as experts, grounded in their unique experience as service users, play a significant role in developing and improving the existing care. Experiential knowledge is therefore a means to enhance the relevance of rese

New Antidiabetic Agents for the Treatment of Heart Failure in Hypertensive Patients

The development of newer glucose-lowering drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in recent years, such as the SGLT-2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists/analogues with well-documented clinical benefits from large trials, has influenced international guidelines. These drugs are able to reduce both macro- and microvascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes and to prevent worsening of di

Subfossil peatland trees as proxies for Holocene palaeohydrology and palaeoclimate

Due to the scarcity of reliable and highly resolved moisture proxies covering much of the Holocene, there has been increased interest in the study of living and subfossil peatland trees sensitive to gradual and extreme chang- es in hydrology, precipitation, and related environmental processes. Hur botas resurssjukan?

This study is concerned with the subject of the resource curse. When countries discover significant natural resource reserves they counterintuitively exhibit dropping growth rates despite its high world market price. Several researchers have studied this phenomenon and labelled it the “resource curse”. They have tracked it to a number of causes, including how massive mineral windfalls affect the p

Female Genital Mutilation in Senegal The role of Socio-Economic Risk Factors of Circumcision and Subsequent Effects of Circumcision upon Fertility and Marriage Markets

Female Genital Mutilation is widespread in sub- Saharan Africa despite being illegal in many countries. It has been shown in previous research that female genital mutilation occurs due to long standing tradition which creates difficulty in the elimination of the practice. In any case, the effects of mutilation can have long lasting effects on future demographics through impacts on future fertility

On Low-Cycle Fatigue

Popular Abstract in English The present work deals with fracture in structures which are exposed to relatively few cycles of static loading during their life-time (maximum some ten thousand). Structures exposed to nearly monotonic loading are rare, except for such loaded mainly by their own weight. In spite of this fact, fracture mechanic methods developed for monotone loading are commonly used onThe experimental results presented confirm the anticipation that it is extremely important not to confuse the concept of 'static loading' with the one of 'monotonic loading'. In principle three different crack configurations were investigated in: edge-cracks, internal flaws and surface cracks. The results showed that the same calculation method could be used for all the investigated crack types. T

Assessing Fire Safety in Maritime Composite Superstructures –- A Risk-Based Approach

Reduced weight and maintenance make it advantageous to replace steel with Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites in maritime applications, but being combustible makes fire safety a burning issue. A new methodology in regulations has opened up for innovative design solutions if they can be regarded as safe as a design complying with all prescriptive requirements. However, an uneven safety level
