Transgenic elevation of VDR in mature osteoblasts was found to inhibit osteoclastogenesis associated with an altered OPG response. This inhibition was confined to cancellous bone. This study indicates that vitamin D-mediated osteoclastogenesis is regulated locally by OPG production in the mature osteoblast.
