Experimental comparison of Q-fog and residential sprinklers in a residential fire scenario
In this report, the effectiveness of a detector-activated water mist system, Q-fog, has been compared to traditional residential sprinklers. In total, eight tests were performed with a realistic fuel (bed with pillow and duvet) based on the test procedure described in LPS 1655. The bed was placed at different locations in the room and was ignited at the pillow and below the bed, also according to In this report, the effectiveness of a detector-activated water mist system, Q-fog, has been compared to traditional residential sprinklers.

Blues for a Blue Planet : Narratives of Climate Change and the Anthropocene in Non-Fiction Books
The planetary changes associated with the Anthropocene, including climate change and extinction of species, pose severe threats to civilization, humanity, and the natural world as we know it. They also pose special challenges to the human imagination. To meet these challenges, climate change communicators use narratives. Nonfiction books intended for a general audience employ two radically differe

Exploring the omnichannel transformation of material-handling configurations and logistics capabilities in grocery retail
Grocery retail is going through a rapid shift. Consumers now expect to be able to shop online or in stores, get orders delivered when and where they want, and preferably as quickly as possible. This development is called omnichannel and means grocery retailers must transform their logistics networks to meet consumers’ evolving expectations and demands. The omnichannel transformation includes, for
Cetrarioid lichens from India revised, including Nephromopsis awasthii sp. nov. and new records
Morpho-taxonomic studies of cetrarioid lichens from India recorded 46 species representing Cetraria, Melanelia, Nephromopsis, and Platismatia. Nephromopsis awasthii is described as new to science; and Cetraria endochrysea, C. sinensis, Melanelia agnata, Nephromopsis ciliaris, N. morrisonicola, N. pseudocomplicata, N. pseudoweberi, N. rugosa, N. weii, and N. yunnanensis are reported for the first t
The Phoenix syndrome : Netroots organizations strategies to gain and maintain digital resource abundance
The development of social media challenges the established conceptualizations of resources in social movements. While previous theories largely illustrated social movements as constantly searching for new and more resources, the development of social media has allowed some actors to gather and mobilize extensive resources rapidly, calling for an analysis of resource abundance. The aim of this arti
Splitting or synonymizing – genus concept and taxonomy exemplified by the Parmeliaceae in the Nordic region.
The current use of a 30 million year dateline for accepting genera in the Parmeliaceae is evaluated. Its value is doubtful since evolution obviously went quicker in some lichen groups compared with others. Parallel evolution is also very common among lichens. Polyphyletic genera should always be split, while sister groups may remain split or be combined after considering non-molecular characters.
Benchmarking Medical Research - Aggregating Publications using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH-terms)
As the interest in research performance analysis using bibliometrics increases, more specialised tools are developed. In cases when verified publication data is not available; data is normally collected and aggregated using subject or organisational criteria. The journal subject areas in Thomson Reuters/ISI are often used, but can be poor in their precision and granularity. In an attempt to improv
Broken data : Conceptualising data in an emerging world
In this article, we introduce and demonstrate the concept-metaphor of broken data. In doing so, we advance critical discussions of digital data by accounting for how data might be in processes of decay, making, repair, re-making and growth, which are inextricable from the ongoing forms of creativity that stem from everyday contingencies and improvisatory human activity. We build and demonstrate ou
Forehearing words : Pre-activation of word endings at word onset
Occurring at rates up to 6-7 syllables per second, speech perception and understanding involves rapid identification of speech sounds and pre-activation of morphemes and words. Using event-related potentials (ERPs) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), we investigated the time-course and neural sources of pre-activation of word endings as participants heard the beginning of unfolding wOccurring at rates up to 6-7 syllables per second, speech perception and understanding involves rapid identification of speech sounds and pre-activation of morphemes and words. Towards zero carbon emissions – Climate policy instruments for energy intensive industries, materials and products
Energy intensive industries (EIIs), producing the basic materials and products needed in society, contribute significantly to global emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). Motivated by the fear of carbon leakage, climate policy has so far treated the EIIs leniently with e.g. low carbon prices and/or free allocation of emission allowances. This has not resulted in more than marginal emission abatemeEnergy intensive industries (EIIs), producing the basic materials and products needed in society, contributesignificantly to global emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs).
