Enhancement of HFE-7200 pool boiling heat transfer on copper surfaces with nanoparticle coatings

Saturated pool boiling heat transfer of HFE-7200 is investigated experimentally on copper surfaces with nanoparticle coatings at atmospheric pressure. The coatings are generated by an electrophoretic deposition method. Two modified surfaces are prepared with Cu-Zinc nanoparticles of 0.3 mg and 0.6 mg, respectively. During the deposition, ethanol works as the solvent while the electrical potential

European Respiratory Society clinical practice guideline : palliative care for people with COPD or interstitial lung disease

There is increased awareness of palliative care needs in people with COPD or interstitial lung disease (ILD). This European Respiratory Society (ERS) task force aimed to provide recommendations for initiation and integration of palliative care into the respiratory care of adult people with COPD or ILD. The ERS task force consisted of 20 members, including representatives of people with COPD or ILD

The concurrent validity of the Lund University Checklist for Incipient Exhaustion and the Karolinska Exhaustion Disorder Scale: a replication study

ObjectiveAs part of our research on Swedish school principals, we examined the concurrent validity between the Karolinska Exhaustion Disorder Scale (KEDS) and the Lund University Checklist for Incipient Exhaustion (LUCIE) in a cross-sectional study sample (N = 2670). Specifically, we examined: (a) to what extent LUCIE and KEDS identified the same individuals and their level of agreement, and (b) t

Regional differences in the incidence of lymphocytic and collagenous colitis over time

Background: In microscopic colitis (MC), the incidence has increased over the last decades. The aim of the present study was to determine the incidence of lymphocytic (LC) and collagenous colitis (CC) in the county Skåne (Scania), southern Sweden, during the period 2010–20 with focus both on the temporal and spatial variations. Methods: The MC diagnosis was retrieved from the biopsy registries at

"It is something that gives us hope" : Lived experience among parents to children with cerebral palsy who are non-ambulant of the phenomenon physical activity, with or without the use of a novel dynamic standing device

INTRODUCTION: Regular physical activity confers health benefits for all. Parents commonly want their children to be physically active, and want to be physically active themselves, but children with cerebral palsy (CP) who are non-ambulant face challenges, and they need support to be physically active. Dynamic standing in the novel motorized assistive device Innowalk has positive effects in childre

The Future of Consumption : How Technology, Sustainability and Wellbeing will Transform Retail and Customer Experience

This open access book presents three future consumption trends—technology, sustainability, and wellbeing—and discusses what impact those trends will have on the ways we shop. What will be important to the consumers of the future? And how will their retail experiences look and feel? Will technology, sustainability, and wellbeing trends fundamentally change how we consume? And how should retail mana

Gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes mellitus after high exposure to perfluoroalkyl substances from drinking water in Ronneby, Sweden

Background: Leakage of fire-fighting foam from an airfield caused contamination of the drinking water supplied to a third of the population in Ronneby, resulting in very high serum levels of predominantly perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS). The results of studies investigating the association between exposure to perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) and pregnan

Risk and outcomes of COVID-19 in patients with oxygen-dependent chronic respiratory failure– a national cohort study

Background: We aimed to evaluate cumulative occurrence and impact of COVID-19 in patients with chronic respiratory failure (CRF) treated with long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT). Material and methods: Data were obtained from the SCIFI-PEARL study on the entire Swedish population and on patients with oxygen-dependent CRF and no COVID-19 diagnosis before start of LTOT. Analyses were performed for three

Comparative effectiveness of Anti-IL5 and Anti-IgE biologic classes in patients with severe asthma eligible for both

Background: Patients with severe asthma may present with characteristics representing overlapping phenotypes, making them eligible for more than one class of biologic. Our aim was to describe the profile of adult patients with severe asthma eligible for both anti-IgE and anti-IL5/5R and to compare the effectiveness of both classes of treatment in real life. Methods: This was a prospective cohort s

Excitonic Dynamics at the Type-II Polytype Interface of InP Platelets

Indirect excitons are the focus of intense research due to the opportunity of studying degenerate quantum gases and liquids in an excitonic system. To realize such systems, it is highly advantageous to have as little scattering as possible. A polytype type-II interface is formed between wurtzite and zincblende InP due to the band alignment. Electrons gather on the zincblende and holes on the wurtz

Childhood neighborhoods and cause-specific adult mortality in Sweden 1939–2015

The socioeconomic health gradient has widened in recent decades. We study how childhood socioeconomic neighborhood conditions influence gender- and cause-specific adult mortality. Using uniquely detailed geocoded longitudinal microdata for a Swedish town (1939–1967), with a follow-up in national registers (1968–2015), we apply Cox proportional hazards models and estimate individual neighborhoods a

Influenza A subtype H3N2 is associated with an increased risk of hospital dissemination – an observational study over six influenza seasons

Background: Previous studies on hospital-acquired influenza (HAI) have not systematically evaluated the possible impact of different influenza subtypes. HAI has historically been associated with high mortality, but clinical consequences may be less severe in a modern hospital setting. Aims: To identify and quantify HAI for each season, investigate possible associations with varying influenza subty

The Role of Energy Offsets on Charge Photogeneration Dynamics in Y-Series Molecules-Based Polymer Solar Cells

Recent research has revealed that low-energy offset polymer solar cells (PSCs) are capable of a power conversion efficiency of over 19%. However, it is unclear how energy offsets and the charge photogeneration process are correlated. Herein, the effect of energy offsets on charge photogeneration dynamics for Y-series molecules (Y5, Y6, Y10, and BTP-4F-12)-based PSCs with the variations of the lowe

Ultrafast Infrared-to-Visible Photon Upconversion on Plasmon/TiO2 Solid Films

Optical upconversion via a multiphoton absorption process converts incoherent low-energy photons to shorter wavelengths. In this contribution, we report a solid-state thin film for infrared-to-visible upconversion composed of plasmonic/TiO2 interfaces. When excited at λ = 800 nm, three photons are absorbed, leading to the excitation of TiO2 trap states into an emissive state in the visible domain.

Non-reproductive effects of follicle-stimulating hormone in young men

Objective: Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) receptor expression has been reported in many extra-gonadal tissues, raising the question of non-reproductive effects of FSH. Because of increasing usage of FSH in treatment of male infertility, deeper knowledge of possible harmful off-target effects of FSH is warranted. Methods: In total, 33 healthy young men (mean age 30 years) were included in the s

Who should operate patients presenting with emergent colon cancer? A comparison of short- and long-term outcome depending on surgical sub-specialization

Background: Colorectal cancer presents as emergencies in 20% of the cases. Emergency resection is associated with high postoperative morbidity and mortality. The specialization of the operating team in the emergency settings differs from the elective setting, which may have an impact on outcome. The aim of this study was to evaluate short- and long-term outcomes following emergent colon cancer sur
