The Phoenix syndrome : Netroots organizations strategies to gain and maintain digital resource abundance

The development of social media challenges the established conceptualizations of resources in social movements. While previous theories largely illustrated social movements as constantly searching for new and more resources, the development of social media has allowed some actors to gather and mobilize extensive resources rapidly, calling for an analysis of resource abundance. The aim of this arti

En viktig skogslevande grupp som drabbas av habitatminskningNature is in many ways crucial for human survival. However, due to human activity and exploitation, unique species and habitats are at risk of extinction. The forest is one habitat that has been deeply afflicted. A massive loss of forests worldwide due to intense forestry has led to a defeat of biodiversity. Saproxylic beetles is one group of forest dwellers that has been affected by habitat loss.

Analysing a bistable switch in systems biology with stochastic simulations

We analyse biological switches with the aid of computers and the Gillespie method, a stochastic solver. Stochastic calculations can lead to spontaneous switches which are, in part, determined by a subset of the parameters. In a deterministic description this is hidden. Initial analysis using a deterministic description of the system will reveal that by applying certain constraints on the system we

Regulating Multiple Externalities: The Case of Nordic Fisheries

Open access is a well-known externality problem in fisheries causing excess capacity and overfishing. Due to global warming, externality problems from CO2 emissions have gained increased interest. With two externality problems, a first-best optimum can be achieved by using two regulatory instruments. However, solving the open-access externality problem also affects CO2 emissions. Towards zero carbon emissions – Climate policy instruments for energy intensive industries, materials and products

Energy intensive industries (EIIs), producing the basic materials and products needed in society, contribute significantly to global emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). Motivated by the fear of carbon leakage, climate policy has so far treated the EIIs leniently with e.g. low carbon prices and/or free allocation of emission allowances. This has not resulted in more than marginal emission abatemeEnergy intensive industries (EIIs), producing the basic materials and products needed in society, contributesignificantly to global emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). CFD modeling and comparison of bioreactor performance across scales at Alvotech

At Alvotech, bioreactors are used for the production of biosimilars. During the production scale-up process, issues can arise at larger scale that are difficult to predict based on physical experiments. Using CFD, two 3D bioreactor models of different scales have been created, namely the 15L HyPerformaTM Glass Bioreactor and 250L HyPerformaTM Single-Use Bioreactor, both manufactured by Thermo FishDuring bioreactor scale-up, unexpected failures become more prevalent due to the increase in volume. A comparison of mixing performance was thus made using computational modeling for two bioreactors at different scales. At the biopharmaceutical company Alvotech, bioreactors are used at different scales for producing biological medicines known as biosimilars. Bioreactors are vessels containing a m

Live Longer, Work Longer? Evidence from Sweden’s Ageing Population

Popular Abstract in English Sweden’s elderly population is growing, propelled by a continuous decline in old-age mortality, while coupled with a persistent replacement level fertility. User Perceptions of Information Quality in Business Intelligence for the Masses

The use of business intelligence is getting more and more widespread. The next step in many cases is to enable a vast amount of employees to utilize this information and tools. This approach is generally described as business intelligence for the masses. By doing so, problems arise when casual users, who are not familiar with advanced business intelligence tools, are supposed to use these in their
