The aim of the study was to review studies concerning single-set and multiple-set resistance training. Twenty-six articles were found, 19 randomized controlled trials and seven studies without randomization process. Out of the 26 articles, 11 showed similar increases in strength when comparing number of sets, mostly one set compared with three sets. Eight of the articles showed a greater increase
Excessive sweating is a major ergonomic concern in bicycle helmet use and low wearing rates are suspected to originate, at least partly, from impaired thermal comfort due to accumulated sweat increasing skin wettedness at the head region. As a development from COST Action TU1101 WG4, we introduce a modelling framework for assessing the thermal comfort of bicy-cle helmet use. We predicted local swe
The use of prosthetic hands are limited partly due to the fact that they lack the provision of sensory feedback to the user. A first step to providing sensory feedback is having adequate sensors in the prosthesis. The WiseSkin project targets the use of artificial skin embedding ultra-low power wireless sensor nodes. This paper provides an overview of the WiseSkin artificial skin for tactile prost
The purpose of this paper is to examine how behavioural biases affect consumers’ response to energy-use information provided through smart meters (SM). We take insights from behavioural economics and carry out two real-life experiments with SMs and electricity users. The experiments were conducted in Copenhagen (Denmark) to identify and assess the potential of two economic behavioural biases, sali
This paper presents a wideband LC quadrature voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) for novel TRPC-UWB transceiver in 0.13 μm CMOS technology. Based on series coupling structure, and through combining the advanced switched capacitor and MOS varactor techniques, this QVCO's continuous frequency tuning range covers from 5.05 to 5.84 GHz. The measured phase noise at 1 MHz offset from a 5.1 GHz carrier a
This paper deals with optimal load balancing in telecommunication networks. For a capacitated telecommunications network with single path routing and an estimated traffic demand matrix, we wish to determine the routing paths aiming at min-max optimization of link loads. To solve this problem, we propose a column (path) generation based heuristic. In the first step, we use column generation to solv
There is considerable evidence that children and adolescents with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) are at increased risk of anxiety and anxiety disorders. However, it is less clear which of the specific DSM-IV anxiety disorders occur most in this population. The present study used meta-analytic techniques to help clarify this issue. A systematic review of the literature identified 31 studies invo
Background: Development of complex, software intensive systems generates large amounts of information. Several researchers have developed tools implementing information retrieval (IR) approaches to suggest traceability links among artifacts. Aim: We explore the consequences of the fact that a majority of the evaluations of such tools have been focused on benchmarking of mere tool output. Method: T
The means to carry out this aim have been 1) a decentralization of the health sector in order to increase lower-level responsibility, accountability, and participation, and 2) a strong national policy formulation capacity, facilitating needs assessment and cost-effective prioritization. Aim The aim
This paper focuses on future scenarios of demand and supply of grain in China. Economic development has been growing at a steady pace for decades and there are no signs of a decline in the near future. Projections of population trends show that the population will continue to expand until 2050, when a levelling- off is predicted. The growth of both population and economy drives industrialisation a
MAX-lab is replacing its microtron injector with a RF-gun driven 500 MeV recirculator linac (250 MeV linac with one recirculation). The linac will later be equipped with a low emittance laser gun. In this paper, a future installation of a superconducting undulator driven by the recirculator beam is discussed. The undulator is characterised by the emission of spontaneous undulator radiation. The li
Due to the gravitational influence of density fluctuations driven by magneto-rotational instability in the gas disk, planetesimals and protoplanets undergo diffusive radial migration as well as changes in other orbital properties. The magnitude of the effect on particle orbits can have important consequences for planet formation scenarios. We use the local-shearing-box approximation to simulate an
It is shown how tilt anisoplanatism in laser-supported multi-conjugatedadaptive optics (MCAO) systems can be a) predicted from a prioriknowledge, b) compensated using additional natural guide stars (NGS),and c) estimated in real time from control loop data to allow PSFretrieval. As a consequence of the problems associated with retrievingatmospheric tip and tilt from laser guide star (LGS) measurem
Different phenomena such as complex flow field and heat release by combustion are involved in the heat transfer process in combustion chambers. This paper concerns prediction of heat load and wail temperature in a gas turbine combustor by taking different phenomena into account. Two dimensional axi-symmetric models were used to model the flow field and combustion in a premised combustor with two d
In this study, a fully three-dimensional model has been developed to simulate two-phase, multi-component gas and heat transport processes in a PEMFC cathode duct. The effects of the electrochemical reactions on the heat generation and mass transfer have been taken into account. Based on the calculated values of water vapor partial pressure and temperature, occurrence of liquid water has been predi
(IB) methods are two popular computational techniques for multi-fluid dynamics. To help shed light on the performance of both techniques, we present accuracy assessment including interfacial geometry, detailed and global transport characteristics. The investigations include the simulations of a droplet under static equilibrium and a droplet rising due to gravity for Re≤1000. Different surface tens
