Tending to the Particular : Navigating Tensions Around Principles of Alternativity Through an Ethics of Care

Alternative organizations must continuously address conflicts that emerge regarding diverging prioritizations and interpretations of autonomy, solidarity, and responsibility. We explore how tensions around alternative moral principles can be navigated through relational processes that attune to others' needs, emotions, and concerns. Building on an organizational ethnography of a cooperative campai

A Prospective Study of Immune Response After COVID-19 or Vaccination and Correlation Between Avidity Index and Neutralizing Capacity

Background: Serological response is an important aspect of COVID-19, especially for evaluation of vaccine effect and risk of severe infection. The gold standard to assess this is analysis of neutralization capacity, but such assays are not widely available, with antibody levels often used as an approximation of the neutralizing ability. Avidity index is a measure of antibody function and avidity m

The genome sequence of Erhard’s wall lizard, Podarcis erhardii (Bedriaga, 1882)

We present a genome assembly from a female specimen of Podarcis erhardii (Erhard's wall lizard; Chordata; Lepidosauria; Squamata; Lacertidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 1,495.98 megabases and 1,477.75 megabases. Most of haplotype 1 (99.28%) is scaffolded into 20 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the W and Z sex chromosomes. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffol

Sustaining Indigenous forest governance: Institutional interactions and robustness in the Hadzabe case

The loss and degradation of forest ecosystems pose a major challenge to global sustainability. Forests deliver vital ecological and social benefits; however, their governance is particularly demanding because they constitute common-pool resources. Although a growing body of research shows that Indigenous communities have developed effective and sustainable forms of forest governance, comparatively

Nature by numbers: an evaluation of how DEFRA’s Biodiversity Metric 3.0 can or cannot capture rewilding outcomes

The United Kingdom’s response to the pressing biodiversity decline in England includes the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) policy and is operationalised through DEFRA’s Biodiversity Metric, which quantifies biodiversity into ‘biodiversity units’. This thesis evaluates how effectively the metric reflects real biodiversity outcomes at the rewilded Knepp Estate in West Sussex. Using 2005 as a baseline an

Quantum Coherence and Entanglement in Ultrafast Laser-Assisted Photoionisation

The entanglement and coherence between the photoelectron and ion in laser-assisted ultrafast photoionisation are fundamental to understanding the underlying dynamics and control of the correlated bipartite system. This work

School counselors in Sweden operate within a context where national legislation provides broad guidelines with limited concrete direction for their role. This study aimed to explore how school counselors perceive, interpret, and manage their discretion and to understand which factors shape their possibilities to act within their profession. The method chosen for this study was qualitative semi-str

"Att tillhöra någonstans, det är ju grunden i allting." Livsberättelser om vägar in i, genom och ut ur kriminalitet.

This study examines how people with lived experiences of crime describe processes of entry into and exit from criminality. Furthermore, the study analyses how social bonds, turning points, and key life experiences are given meaning, and how the functions of criminality can be understood through the participants' life narratives. With a symbolic interactionist perspective, the analysis is made

This study focuses on how the daily press portrays social workers and their work with children and teenagers. It is a discourse analysis with social constructivism as the theoretical framework. The method was a qualitative cross-section together with Fairclough's model of critical discourse analysis. The material consists of news articles from three of the largest newspapers in Sweden from the

"Vem bär ansvaret?" - En kvalitativ studie om socialsekreterares erfarenheter av samverkan mellan socialtjänst och psykiatri

This study aimed to explore how social workers in the field of substance use and addiction experience and perceive organizational boundaries, division of responsibilities, and collaboration routines in the relationship between social services and psychiatric care, and how these factors affect the possibility of offering cohesive support to people with comorbidity. A qualitative research design was

This study aimed to examine how job-seeking individuals with a criminal record perceive their motivation to seek employment, which factors facilitate or hinder their participation in the job search process, and how they experience support from authorities. The sample initially consisted of participants recruited through Krami offices in Sweden and was supplemented with snowball sampling, allowing

This study aims to examine how changes in integration policy and the political discourse on migration affect social workers’ perceptions of their professional discretion, as well as how these changes are reflected in everyday practice and in encounters with clients. The study is based on qualitative interviews with social workers working with newly arrived migrants at the municipality level and is

Wild bees mediate fruit quality via seed set in highbush blueberry : A quantitative synthesis

Insect-mediated pollination enhances global production of many crops, and evidence highlights that insect pollination can also improve crop quality. The link between insect-mediated pollination and crop quality is driven not only by insect pollinators, but by a complex of interactions between pollinators, plant genotype, levels of cross pollination, plant physiology, environmental conditions, farm

Stroke of Consistency : Streamlining Multicenter Protocols for Enhanced Reproducibility of Infarct Volumes in Preclinical Stroke Research

BACKGROUND: The discrepancy between experimental research and clinical trial outcomes is a persistent challenge in preclinical studies, particularly in stroke research. A possible factor contributing to this issue is the lack of standardization across experimental stroke models, leading to poor reproducibility in multicenter studies. This study addresses this gap by aiming to enhance reproducibili

Messy customer journey self-mapping : A qualitative method for the future of second-hand retail and consumption

For circular retail models to successfully replace linear consumption in the future, retailers must understand the lived reality of second-hand customer journeys. However, existing customer journey mapping methods often fail to capture the non-linear, phygital, and multi-retailer nature of such journeys. This article introduces ‘messy customer journey self-mapping’, a novel qualitative method desi

Tighter Value-Function Approximations for POMDPs

Solving partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs) typically requires reasoning about the values of exponentially many state beliefs. Towards practical performance, state-of-the-art solvers use value bounds to guide this reasoning. However, sound upper value bounds are often computationally expensive to compute, and there is a tradeoff between the tightness of such bounds and their co
