I Sövde fanns från 1100-talet och fram till reformationen fanns en befäst huvudgård tillhörande ärkesätet i Lund. Spåren efter denna anläggning kom att undersökas år 1911 av pastor loci Oscar Blomstergren under överinseende av Otto Rydbeck, docent i nordisk konstarkeologi, Lund.
