Antibody-Fragments: Protein Engineering, Process Development, and their Application as Affinity Ligands

Monoclonal antibody (mAb) fragments have become the formats of choice for both biopharmaceuticals and ligands in analytical and preparative applications. Their smaller size enables additional advantages over full-length mAbs, such as improved tissue penetration, faster blood clearance for diagnostic applications, improved capacity, and enablement of multivalent formatting. Apan som blev kock

How far back in time can we trace fire use in the human story? The archaeological data has demonstrated inconsistency when it comes to answering that question. Incontrovertible remains after hearths are scarce especially before 100,000 years BP. One of the reasons are that remains after temporary hearths doesn’t preserve well in the archaeological record in comparison with for example, stone tools

Lindman och krutbrännaren : Om färgsättningen av en orkidé

This article discusses problems concerning the use of colour in botanical illustrations, focusing on a specific species, the Orchis ustulata (Burnt Orchid). In 1901–1905 the Swedish botanist Carl Lindman (1856–1928) was responsible for the publication of the Swedish flora Bilder ur Nordens flora, that was, in some ways, a reworking of J. W. Palmstruch’s Svensk botanik (1802–1843). A Study of Transdiagnostic Mediators of Emotional Disturbance in Psychiatrically-Referred Adults: The Role of Distress Tolerance, Anxiety Sensitivity and Intolerance of Uncertainty

In an effort to improve our understanding of the etiology and treatment of disorders involving symptoms of anxiety and depression, researchers have set out to identify psychological traits that may leave an individual vulnerable to experiencing intense negative emotional reactions. Included among these vulnerabilities are a person’s ability to tolerate negative emotional states (Distress Tolerance

Assessing the Challenges faced by Startups in Collaborating with Corporate Accelerators

Corporate Accelerators (CA) have become popular over the years as a means of corporate engagement with startups. Existing research highlights the importance of CA’s role in increasing the likelihood of success for the new and inexperienced startups. Yet, there is a significant research gap in gauging the perceptions and opinions of entrepreneurs and startup founders who participated and collaborat

Tryggve, Improving the Standard Crutch - A Bachelor Project by Bea Olsson

This bachelor’s degree project investigates the improvement of the functionality, comfort, and aesthetics of forearm crutches for people living with temporary or chronic mobility limitations. The target group of individuals aged 40-65 reflects a wide range of lifestyles, from short-distance mobility to commuting. Through interviews and observations with individuals that belong to the target group,

Collimation technique for HPGe-detector gamma spectrometry in intense radiation fields

The aim of this master thesis was to develop a rotation-based collimation system for large coaxial high-purity germanium detectors for use in intense radiation fields. A collimator was constructedformed as a cylinder surrounding the detector, with a 90° slit opening to the detector. The rotational asymmetry caused by the slit was used to trace the direction of the incident gamma rays as well as re

Biological citizenship in relation to medical counseling and medical genetics : examples from Sweden 1940-1980

Our presentation builds on a research project on the emergence of medical genetics and genetic counselling in Sweden 1940-1980. The use of the nest for parental roosting and thermal consequences of the nest for nestlings and parents

At temperate latitudes, altricial birds and their nestlings need to handle night temperatures well below thermoneutrality during the breeding season. Thus, energy costs of thermoregulation might constrain nestling growth, and low nocturnal temperatures might require resources that parents could otherwise have invested into nestlings during the day. Tumor tissue protein signatures reflect histological grade of breast cancer

Histological grade is one of the most commonly used prognostic factors for patients diagnosed with breast cancer. However, conventional grading has proven technically challenging, and up to 60% of the tumors are classified as histological grade 2, which represents a heterogeneous cohort less informative for clinical decision making. In an attempt to study and extend the molecular puzzle of histolo

A method to stretch the retina in vitro and monitor effects on Müller glial cells

The retina is a thin tissue layer on the inside of the eye and may be subject to tractional forces in diseases like myopia, retinoschisis, and retinal detachment. Müller glial cells (MGCs) are the only cells spanning the entire retinal thickness and hypothetically respond to mechanical stress imposed across retinal layers. We designed a device to apply force in vitro perpendicular to the retinal s
